I haven’t done anything yet- Brendan Rodgers’ confession to Tynecastle reaction

Brendan Rodgers has claimed that he has done nothing yet since returning as Celtic manager in June.

No trophies have been collected but a certain result at Ibrox on September 3 felt like a trophy win as a badly depleted Celtic side won the Glasgow Derby sending their city rivals into a tail spin that resulted in a change of management.

That match was a massive task of Rodgers as a coach and tactician as he put together a brand new central defensive pairing and finished with a left-back that isn’t good enough for his Champions League squad.

The circumstances that Rodgers left Celtic in in February 2019 will always jar with some supporters but winning matches tends to bring supporters around to a more positive viewpoint.

After beating Hearts on Sunday fans chanted the managers name, Rodgers was clearly delighted by that reaction and was asked about it at today’s media conference for the Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid tomorrow night.

It is always nice, I haven’t done anything yet since I came back here. So I need to prove myself again to the club and support base.

But what I think is important is whether you win lose or draw that your club, team and supporters have that unity.

If you can do that then that will give you a great chance to succeed.

There was only 500 or so supporters there, they gave us a great backing and that’s what I always expect of Celtic supporters. They love the team, they love their club, they travel round the world to see their club and hopefully we can keep winning and playing well and they get more joy from watching the team.

For me it is great when you get the support but as long as the team gets the support that’s what is most important.

That’d be YOUR opinion, Ed. That GT isn’t good enough for the Cl!
But I would beg to differ. The Team, the Management and Board are not good enough for Europe! Don’t victimise a particular Celtic player because that’s not what Celtic is about!
    Look at the bigger picture.
We brought back a manager (Boards decision) who was not good enough for Europe and nothing has changed!
The team that was delivered to him won a World Record Eighth Treble, so they can’t be that bad. Our left-back was one of the best performers of that squad.
So look elsewhere for your deficiencies in Europe and the CL. Putting pressure on an individual player is not going to change that!

“… and finished with a left-back that isn’t good enough for his Champions League squad.”

He doesn’t mean Taylor, he means Bernabei who replaced him,in that game.

      • the maister says:

There’s nothing wrong with Bernabei. Its just Hun propaganda and you fell for it!
        Same reasons apply!
Most Entrepreneurs take a risk to make a profit. Desmond and his Board just continue to fleece Celtic supporters!

      • the maister says:

You are talking yellow Celtic crap. Taylor finished the game!
And even if he didn’t, you are still talking Yellow Celtic Crap!

      • the maister says:

Shame on you, so called Celtic Supporters, who take the thin gruel offered to you by this Celtic Board!

        • Seppington says:

Shut up you feckin’ moron. Bernabei replaced Taylor at Ibrox, I went back and looked at the match report.

Yellow Celtic crap? All you’re spouting is the pure unadulterated brown stuff, go back to swigging from your bottle of turpentine and give the more sane amongst us a break from your bollocks ffs.

          • the maister says:

You think that Bernabei isn’t good enough for the UCL? That’s your opinion!
But pardon me for smiling as we say goodbye to
            “European Football After Christmas”!
            Brendan Rogers quoted this!
Celtic are not good enough for the UCL.
You think we’ll finish anything but bottom of this Group?
Wake up and smell the fockin’ coffee, what!

          • Seppington says:

Wasn’t about me thinking Bernabei isn’t good enough (he doesn’t seem to be good enough for the SPFL ffs let alone the CL), it was about you misunderstanding Joe’s point.

“Most Entrepreneurs take a risk to make a profit. Desmond and his Board just continue to fleece Celtic supporters!”

Agree somewhat, but it’s one thing to do that when you’re running something like a retail business.and another entirely when you’re talking about something that means so much to so many people like a football club. David Murray took massive risks with Rangers in a vain attempt to emulate our ’67 success and look how that turned out. Are you saying you want Desmond to do the same for what would likely still end up being nothing better than a Europa place after Christmas? Would you be happy to support The Celtic FC International for the chance of some minor, fleeting glory? Get a feckin’ grip.

You spouting yer pish though…is it just so you can feel smug and say “I told you so!” when we go out? If you’re smiling when we “say goodbye to European football after Christmas” then you’re naught but a feckin’ hun scumbag, and the pish you spout on here sure gives that impression sometime.

            Just sayin’…

          • the maister says:

You sure have a big mouthful of Foul Yellow Crap. Keep it shut,eh?!

          • Seppington says:

            Right back at ya bawbag.

  • the maister says:

If you had been paying attention, the team that Rodgers think are competitive in the ECL (and we just need to take our chances etc.) lost a goal to Feyenoord just before half-time. That is a sucker punch – and we lost the second-half too. 1-0!
So, we are going nowhere in Europe. That is the policy of this Board!
£46 per ECL game buys you noise, lights, bovril and a pie, the right to shout out loud – but little else!
