Steven Naismith has spilled the beans on the last gasp penalty that cost Hearts a win at Ibrox.

Leading with a Lawrence Shankland goal in the fourth minute Hearts had defended well and looked on course to take at least a point from their trip along the M8.

Defending a corner there was the usual jostling going on inside the penalty box in full view of referee John Beaton who allowed play to continue as the ball was cleared.

With play stopped for an offside call Beaton halted play prompted by Alan Muir on VAR duty, doubling up after refereeing the Hibs v Celtic match on Saturday.

Rather than review the general passage of play Muir focussed on a shirt pull by Peter Haring AFTER he had been blocked by John Lundstram.

Beaton doesn’t need much encouragement to set up a penalty for James Tavernier, with time running out he gave the Ibrox skipper the opportunity to draw level which he took.

Naismith told the Edinburgh News:

I spoke to the officials and they said if it was given a goal, it would then be given as a foul. Lo and behold, there’s a clear block on our man. John Lundstram is not interested in the ball, all he is doing is looking at our player, and he blocks him, and it gets given as VAR as a penalty.

The referee said that he was never shown any video footage of any block happening. There’s contact with our player as the ball is coming in by a Rangers player who is not interested in the ball. Clear obstruction, clear blocking, should be our foul.

VAR should see that a foul has happened before the two players make contact [for the penalty]. He said he didn’t see that far back but it’s pretty obvious, to be honest, when you look at it.

On Wednesday night Beaton will referee the Celtic v St Mirren match.

Today was the fourth consecutive time he has been chosen to referee matches between Hearts and the club from Ibrox, it is now 64 matches since a penalty was awarded against the Tribute Act in the SPFL, a run spanning three managers and 22 monthS.

After his carefully scripted appearance with Gordon Duncan on Sky Sports last weekend Referee Chief Crawford Allan won’t be making any media appearances this week.

  • Scud Missile says:

And the Beaton cheating still goes on probably with on a free bar again atvhis local tonight.
There is a £40 to £50 million jackpot at the end of this season sevco need that more than us,and their going to get every bit of help and support along the way today’s game proved that with those decisions and 9 minutes added time.
Meanwhile our own club and the rest in the league are sitting back lapping it up.
The games a bogey sevco are winning this league, they will be top by Christmas time and never look back, corruption of the highest kind and our own club have played their part in it.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I don’t think (for once) that Beaton is to blame for this one Scud as he’d long let play go on a bit…

Muir is dangerous and has been for a while –

Just because he is based in Aberdeen and not Bridgeton doesn’t mean he is not an orange lodge bigot – some of the worst of that type are from plenty places outwith the central belt…

That said we all know about Beaton and his history as well –

Well – This League ain’t over yet… From a football perspective surely eventually yes, but the dark shadowy skulduggery continues unabated – And will continue unabated for eternity…

I’m just glad that I no longer pay not one red cent towards this farce of a sport in this rancid football country !

PS – I don’t particularly like Naismith but full credit to him for speaking out the way he did as not very many of them (Sevco opposition managers) do – so a rare kudos to him on this occasion) !

And you know how this is going to go, eventually?

It could be a late game of the season, with sevco being awarded another dodgy

penalty – which could have a major impact on where the title ends up.

Or, it could be a dodgy decision to award a penalty to sevco – or to deny CFC – in

the Scottish Cup Final which costs us the trophy?

If these dodgy decisions are shockingly blatant, the Board ‘might’ feel compelled to say

something publicly about the match officiating standards.

But, that would be too late. Far too late.

The Board should be calling out the standards of match officiating EVERY time

NOW – so that we can avoid a Beaton type decision denying us another – honestly –

    won trophy.

Absolutely no point in complaining publicly and officially after losing a trophy.

The Board should be loud and combatitive to ensure that every dodgy ref / VAR

decision is called out, investigated – and with the well remunerated match officials

being held to account – along with Crawford Allan.

If the Board wants to build some bridges with the support [?] having a pop at the

Scottish Referees’ Association and the SFA as and when rerquired would help

    massively, IMO.

  • Stesano says:

Only in Brigadoon Scotland would this happen!! Beaton has a long history of helping out the poison as he is one of them!! Former ref curuthers called this out 2 years ago after he did the same against Aberdeen. ” John beaton should never be allowed to referee a rangers match ever” his words! We saw Muir do his bit yesterday giving a foul against us in injury to e for nothing!!In a game we had 70 percent possession we somehow made 70 percent more fouls!!

In the Hibss box in injury tine he made sure we wouldn’t score with the phantom foul in 92 minute and again only added 3 on which was at least 2 less than should been added! This same guy that didn’t even check the stonewaller at Kilmarnock in hacks! Inverness hand ball in 2015 he was on the line! No penalty! Then throw in the ” var” specialist Dallas jnr beatons best pal by the way both drink in Daziel golf club where Dallas put TV off after a Celtic goal against old dead rangers! That is a fact!!

So it’s like this if there were no orc refs in Brigadoon there be no refs!! Oh and Dallas snr as we all know was sacked for his sectarianism he the ref that gave the poison a penalty for nothing in that league decider after sending mahe of for hee haw! Our club officials have helped enabled these cheats! Shame on lawell and those cowards to!

Nick Walsh the ref in the Semi next week

Don’t even bother turning up Hearts , you’ve lost

  • Jae Walker says:

At almost 56 and a STH of 30 years, I’m past the point of caring anymore. All the other clubs fall in line to the team that plays at Ipox, for reasons we’re all well aware of, and none will protest too loudly, if at all. But why should we bother, when our board watches the same as us, year in year out, yet deliberately says and does nothing. I salute Brendan for his “making tricks” comment, but it’s a minor remark, not supported by his employers. A real irony here – a NI Catholic who has seen the tide turn in his native Ireland l, whereby the establishment has been challenged and beaten…yet here, our Manager still has to participate in this, CFC board perpetuated subservience. Hard to believe it’s 2023, and we’re still happily bending over. Our board, and us by association are like Samuel L Jackson’s character Stephen in Django. We are fking enablers, we provide the platform for this to continue. Us fans, because we don’t protest to our board in such a manner that they have to desert they’re policy, and instead are forced to challenge the disparity and unfairness. Just call it out. Stats speak for themselves. All our board has to do is highlight them. These anomalies do not stand up to formal analytical scrutiny. However, what’s the point in me moaning any more. The board do nothing, actively try to discredit and shut down those like “Auld Heid.”. So when your own kind, and those with clout to effect change, look the other way, seriously what can we do to force change.

  • Jae Walker says:

That brings me to the GB. I often ask myself why they don’t shine a torch on what we all know and see. At club level, this is something that matters deeply to each and every supporter. Yet the GB with its platform focuses on 100 differing issues, but never this. Just one fking banner highlighting the 64:match run of penalty anomalies alongside another highlighting the team awarded the most over the last 4 years and the team with the lowest red card count. These are contentious talking points, and the more they’re publicly highlighted, the more they can’t be ignored. So GB, do the fans a favour, for once take a stance against something all Celtic fans are behind. And may be you will actually be responsible for effecting positive change in this rotten backwater

  • Bob (original) says:

Had a chance to watch the second sevco penalty award in the 88th minute, repeatedly.

IMO, Lundstram has applied a trick taught in training to win that penalty.

With the corner kick coming in, Lundstram has his back to the direction of play.

He [No.4] has his back to the ball coming into the box.

He has no idea where the ball is – because he is focused on the Hearts player.

He then blocks the Hearts player.

If you’re a goal down with 2 minutes to go of normal time,

and you have just won a corner…

you would be in the box focused on the flight of the ball coming in to try and score.

WHY would your have your back to the corner kick,

and WHY would you be looking at an opposing player inside the box instead?

    Have a look on YouTube.

Is this a trick we’ll see repeated this season by sevco?

Atrocius ref / VAR decisions – again.

  • Justshatered says:

If you are going to go looking for infringements to give penalties while ignoring other fouls then penalties will be given week in, week out for The Rangers.

At the end of the day EVERY single club in the country is happy with this level of officiating.

  • William Melvin says:

    I keep saying it !!!

How many times do l have to repeat myself ???

All you guys having a moan about this again ???

You all gotta get with the programme !!!

    It’s called “The Lawwell Effect.”

It suits our “suits” to ignore this brazen cheating year after year as it’s the only way they can keep their beloved Old Firm Franchise chugging along.
We should have been long gone into the way yonder and over the horizon, focusing on building a team for Europe whilst at the same time hoovering up domestic silverware.

Instead, here we are wondering if our superior financial muscle, infinitely better squad of players and every other advantage Fergus built into his master plan is gonna be sufficient due to the skullduggery perpetrated by the officials on a weekly basis, happily enabled by the parasites in our boardroom.

We,as a fanbase, can effect change but it means going without our matchday pie n bovril, buying the new kits for the weans and every other form of money making paraphernalia these maggots want us to spend our cash on.

As someone has already indicated, the GB should be all over this to bring the support together in a cohesive show of dissent.

If it comes down to the nitty gritty this board of ours will throw the huns a bone and don’t think they won’t….they have previous in giving them a helping hand.

The winter window should be quite interesting, we could well be looking for a new manager as history repeats itself.
