Liel Abada has thanked everyone that has offered him support over the last couple of days.

The Celtic winger turned 22 last Tuesday but woke up on Saturday morning to find that Israel was in the headlines while he was thousands of miles from home.

World news has switched focus from the war in Ukraine towards the Middle East with Abada left in a very uncomfortable position.

At 5pm last night Celtic issued a statement disassociating the club from political banners, for a club with Celtic’s history it seems that there was a lack of awareness in the wording of the statement.

They might have their origins in a bygone age but The Fields of Athenrye and Let The People Sing are songs founded on politics and regularly played over the PA system at Celtic Park.

In 1968 following the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia Celtic refused to play Ferencvaros in the European Cup which forced UEFA to redraw the competition.

    in the Celtic Board is an accountant.
    They don’t do politics!
    It is easier to dissociate them from the (any) issue than to understand the issue and have an informed opinion which will drive Club opinion or policy.
