BBC Scotland’s Twitter account appears to ave got over emotional at Scotland’s 2-0 defeat away to Spain tonight.

Midway through the second half Scott McTominay found the net directly from a free kick to spark celebrations among the radio commentary team and those covering the match for Twitter.

After the celebrations died down the referee signalled that he would need to check with the monitor, when that happens it almost always results in the decision being overturned.

Following a quick check play restarted with a free kick in the Spanish six yard box with the match goal-less.

On Viaplay Sports there was confusion over whether the decision was for a foul or offside, whatever it was the decision prompted someone trained by BBC Scotland to question the integrity of the match officials.

When Motherwell had a very suspect foul awarded against them in their recent visit to Ibrox there was no suggestion of Scandalous in the BBC coverage.

In the next match Abdallah Sima pushed Jamie Brandon to the ground then ran on to score the only goal of the game. No one claimed that it was scandalous.

Spain went on to win the match 2-0 to keep Scotland waiting to cross the line for qualification.

To be fair, having watched the game, I thought the ref was abysmal. Reminded me of the display you expect from the man in black in Derby games.

I daresay the ref WAS abysmal . But still not as biased and corrupt as scottish refs . Karma ??????

  • Scouse bhoy says:

He was offside when he received the ball surely ?.

I should really be pissed off that a vital Scotland goal was chopped off in which if it was allowed to stand then Scotland would in all probability grabbed the point they needed to qualify…

I’ve not yet seen it but if it was ligit but chopped off then there’s a wee bit of Schadenfreude in me towards The SFA that being the case –

Now you (SFA) bar stewards know what your employees (referees and var referees) do to Celtic on a regular basis and also outwith Celtic what they do to all other teams playing Sevco…

I think Scotland will still qualify but tonight for me anyway there is a good bit off –

HaHaHaHaHaHa Maxwell and co and SFA & Get it right up youse !!!

What’s the problem? This happens every week in Scotland when the huns are involved.

It’s merely an anomaly and will balance itself out at the end of the season.

    Get over it.

  • John Copeland says:

Now that the BBC have set a precedence by commenting on a referee’s decision , there can be no excuse not to use some more of our public money to do the same domestically ….can there ? Somehow I know it will be less critical especially when a certain clumpany gets to play .

  • Ianb says:

So many Scots happy to see their own country lose, something that is exclusive to Scotland.

    • Stewart says:

Got to admit it gutted,, at ref will find good home at sfa,, as for bbc commentary pundits are bound to look at the ifab rules as they always use that stick to beat us with

  • Captain Swing says:

These things balance themselves out over the course of a season…..
