SFA bottle out of demanding UEFA release audio from VAR officials

The SFA don’t want UEFA to release the audio from the disputed Scott McTominay ‘goal’ against Spain on Thursday night.

With the match goal-less the Manchester United midfielder fired in a free-kick that found the net with minimal interference from Jack Hendry.

On Viaplay Sport, who have access to the VAR conversations the ‘goal’ was initially disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper, later in the match an image was produced to show that Hendry was in an offside position when the ball hit the net.

The VAR conversation is the issue that most fans are curious to hear but it seems that the SFA want to keep that out of their enquiry.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, SFA President Mike Mulraney said:

We’ve asked for clarity, we’ve not asked for the audio. We’ve asked for clarity and an understanding of what the process was. We’ve got a responsibility to our fans and the nation. We need to represent our nation properly.

It’s not just Scotland who have been questioning this. I’ve had messages from all over Europe asking: ‘what happened?’

My answer is, I don’t know. Transparency is very important and that’s what we’ve asked for. I’m sure Uefa will be forthcoming with an explanation, which we can then give out.

It seems that transparency isn’t so important in Scottish football where the SFA keep silent on all VAR related issues, refusing to share images for offside decisions being a prime example.

Other sports are happy to share their audio commentary but that appears to be an issue that the SFA are determined to avoid.

A year on from introducing VAR to SPFL Premiership matches one club has managed to extend to 62 matches their run of fixtures without having a penalty awarded against them.

Without audio and a timeline on the decision UEFA will inform the SFA that Hendry was offside and supply the image used for the decision.

If they ask for the audio – and why wouldn’t you – it then opens up the floodgates for the exact same to be done domestically every single time ,as the precedent is set . What a bunch of incompetent unprincipled false faces !

  • Captain Swing says:

Perhaps they will twist their melon a bit and say “McTominay was in an offside position when he received the ball” or something….

    • Terence Nova says:

SFA are not fit for purpose…Expenses grabbing leeches who enjoy a football lifestyle away above their abilities…We get what we deserve to be honest.

  • Tony B says:

No surprise there then. The corrupt SFA have too much to hide to allow this sort of openness in the game.

    Merely protecting their brotherly backs.

  • James Ward says:

There’s no way that decision was going Scotland’s way.Uefa don’t want two small countries like Scotland and Norway qualifying from that group, all about the seeded team.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

No they probably don’t want two small countries like Scotland and Norway there James indeed…

But my goodness – The SFA certainly want a small club (That St.Johnstone outnumber in trophies won) and they want their newest club (that same one – Sevco) That are 11 years and 77 days old today to be at the very very top of every competition in not so Bonnie Scotland –

Mulraney has some bloody cast iron brass neck with his bullshit indeed…

If you took a chainsaw to it you wouldn’t even graze it !

  • Scouse bhoy says:

A precedent was set at tynecastle on the first day .

  • Bob (original) says:

Must have missed Rod Petrie’s departure as SFA Presdient in June.

So, this new SFA President – Mike Mulraney – owns Alloa Athletic.

And our CEO is an ex-Partick Thistle Managing Director.

I’m sure UEFA is trembling at the thought of these 2 ‘demanding answers’…?!

    Farcical.

  • the maister says:

It was a goal, a great goal in my opinion, but the SFA are too unprincipled to do anything about it!
They don’t represent me and to trust UEFA to be transparent about it is just pure joke material!
