SPFL clubs set for ticket vote as away allocations crumble

After the latest round of allocation cutting SPFL clubs are reported to be about to vote on a rule change to guarantee away fan allocations.

Hearts have cut all away allocations with the exception of Hibs down to 561 which follows the line from Ibrox that hands over 800 tickets to away supporters.

Celtic’s allocation of around 1,000 is rarely tested with clubs such as Livingston and Ross Country rarely able to sell more than a couple of hundred tickets.

The Glasgow Derby has been at the centre of continuing ticket issues since 2018 with the trend being to reduce to zero rather than restore the previous allocations of 7,000.

Celtic fans used to get allocations of 3,000 for most away grounds but outwith Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen no clubs in the SPFL Premiership have capacities of over 15,000.

Finding a consensus among 11 clubs for a rule that hands over 20% of tickets to away clubs seems unlikely although that figure is used by the SFA for Scottish Cup matches.

Picking up on a report from elsewhere the Daily Record reports:

The Daily Mail state Celtic will reject Rangers’ request for the upcoming clash despite the Ibrox club keen for travelling supporters to be in attendance. Hearts have also reduced away tickets for rivals bar Hibs but it now appears SPFL’s Rule I27 could be modified to guarantee set away fans in attendance. The rule states “the home club must make provision for the admission of such reasonable numbers of visiting supporters at every home league match”.

The proposed new rule would remove wiggle room within the current wording and offer clarity over how many visiting fans can attend matches at away grounds. If clubs are in favour of change then it is set to go to a vote on January 22 with 11 clubs in favour needed for any new resolution to pass.

UEFA’s current rules see five per cent allotted to travelling fans but a minimum threshold of 2.5 per cent for stadiums in excess of 30,000 in Scotland has other Premiership clubs hopeful Glasgow’s big two could be in favour of reform before it potentially goes to ballot next year.

Hibs have given Celtic an allocation of 3,591 for the October 29 visit to Easter Road but that sort of allocation is very much the exception.

That common sense is gonna go against The Sevco Huns FC is truly a thing of beauty…

But if it’s to be an 11:1 vote in favour then Liebrox (Sevco) and Swinecastle (Hearts) might scupper it !

It has to be a minimum of 5% . Here in Portugal there is a 5% allocation for away fans in the away supporters section .. If the tickets are not sold then they can be resold to home supporters and on occasions (when it is the bigger teams) there are some stadiums where the away supporters outnumber the home support (Vizela, Rio Ave for example when Porto, Benfica or Sporting visit).
Therefore the excuse that Ibrox spout that they have sold the season tickets to the home supporters would be null and void.

    Don’t expect a
    “Reasonable Allocation”
    from the unreasonable.
Nor a fair allocation from the bigots!
