The timing was almost as good as the arrival of Tom Rogic weaving his way to goal before angling the ball into the net.

On the day that the legendary Australian announced his retirement with 16 medals in his cabinet, alongside international honours, Matthew Elder of The Scotsman took things too far in his attempt to deliver a good news story to the jolly bears in Morningside and Corstorphine.

Despite his clown shoes appearances so far which contributed greatly to Micky Beale getting sacked, Sam Lammers is actually incredibly gifted with the knack of delivering important goals in finals, semi finals, Glasgow Derbies and title clinchers.

After signing the Dutch dud from PSV Eindhoven in 2020 Atlanta quickly realised their error, sending Lammers out on various loans with no club prepared to bite with a transfer offer.

Thanks to Aaron Ramsey, the midfielder does have a Europa League winners medal in his locker from a night on the bench in Seville but stints at Sampdoria and Empoli last season continued a pattern.

Fortunately for Atalanta Micky Beale came along, offered £3.5m for Lammers and suddenly his stats were sugar coated and he was a former PSV starlet just needing the magic coaching powers of the Brains Behind Gerrard to fulfil his potential.

Former Ibrox ‘star spotter’ Neil Murray compared Lammers with Tom Rogic, Elder couldn’t resist the prospect of spinning good news out of the latest disastrous chapter from Ibrox with Football Scotland passing the story on to a different audience.

After stints at both Ibrox clubs and Millwall it seems that no club is prepared to directly employ Murray.

His latest venture, according to LinkedIn is as Sales Director with Instat of Limerick with his role described as:

Leading a sales team in the UK and Ireland to deliver sports data and analytics to leading professional football clubs in the territory. During this period sales have grown each year. As part of the role I have learned to use software tagging tools, telestration tools and read/interpret data. Further enhancing and strengthening my experience in the football sector and giving me experience of analysis to add to my recruitment and contract negotiation background.

Seems like he has been overdoing it on the telestration tools.
