Gordon Parks of the Daily Record has stated the case for David Martindale to succeed Micky Beale at Ibrox.

The Livingston boss is the longest serving manager in the SPFL Premiership and has often discussed his fondness for the club that is looking for their fourth manager in two years.

Beale’s disastrous reign has emptied the Ibrox bank balance with the next boss inheriting a misfiring squad that are locked into long term contracts.

Despite having the smallest budget in the division Livingston are starting their fifth successive season in the top flight with Martindale acting as assistant to Kenny Miller and Gary Holt before taking on the top job in November 2020.

Graham Potter, Derek McInnes and Kevin Muscat have all been linked with the job but when the Record asked for their writers thoughts Parks went a little left field:

If it’s a manager who is a master at organising teams, recruiting decent players on a pittance, motivating them to play to their potential and who knows what’s required for Scottish football then it should be David Martindale.

The snobs will laugh and demand a big name but how well has that worked for Rangers? Billy Reid as a superb assistant and contacts man would also improve matters.

Steven Davis and Alex Rae have been appointed as caretakers with an expectation that they will be in charge for two matches with the next permanent boss in place for the home match against Hibs on October 21.
