Mike Mulraney has claimed that Scottish referees are doing an amazing job with VAR.

The SFA President is also the Chairman of Alloa who are never involved in matches with VAR.

At every Viaplay Cup tie where clubs had the option to opt out of having VAR they have done so with only the televised matches having an extra set of eyes checking over decisions.

Celtic may be sitting well clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership table but there has been plenty of decisions that have left supporters amazed.

Away to Ross County at the start of this month a ‘goal’ from Liam Scales was disallowed for what appeared normal penalty box contact, a shirt pull on Oh Hyeon-gyu inside the box was unpunished while a dubious still image was released which appeared to be taken after the ball was kicked to disallow another ‘goal’ for offside.

Those incidents occurred in just 45 minutes, no explanation was given with just the interpretation of Sky Sports commentators available to TV viewers.

Mulraney told the Daily Mail:

I believe our referees, when you consider VAR has only been in for a year, are doing an amazing job.

There have been mistakes, of course there have. But they have done an amazing job of finding a new way of refereeing. They have done a very, very good job and hopefully it will get better.

Look around Europe and speak to other associations as often as I do and, trust me, we are doing okay.

We brought in an independent panel of ex pros to study decisions early after the first quarter of the season and the evidence seems to show that we are getting there and we are doing the right kind of things.

But, as always, we have to embrace transparency and ensure that we learn and improve.

In England Howard Webb has released audio of decisions and appeared on a TV show to discuss the reasoning behind some decisions.

SPFL fans are basically left in the dark, the still images from Hawkeye used for offside decisions could easily be put on the SFA website but they chose not to do that.

This season Crawford Allan appeared on Sky Sports to justify a couple of very obvious decisions as explanations over the more controversial incidents are notable by their absence.

Can’t really criticise the Chairman of Allow, or the ex-Partick Thistle MD,

who hold the top 2 positions in Scottish football.

Our own Board says absolutely nothing, so it must be delighted with VAR too?

    🙁

I can’t help but think that there would be a further amazing , hopeful outlook for VAR , if the public were to be allowed to listen in to the decision making between officials … as it happens live ,in true real time ? You know ,just like those honest ,above reproach Rugby officials who inform the paying and watching public on every single contentious decision ,making everything crystal clear and easily understood ! It’s so easy to implement that it’s frightening …..

Of course they’re happy with it, it’s working fine if you favour a new company from Ibrox.
And Lawwell will say absolutely NOTHING. Even if they cheat us out of the Title this season because Lawwell will be happy with that.
That FN snake is our biggest problem, that and his master, Desmond.
They probably still cling to hopes of Celtic and Sevco, fraudulently referred to as the extinct Old Firm, gaining admittance to the EPL which would net both of these tory scumbags fortunes, even by their disgusting ‘standards’.
    GTTF, pronto!

Well at least he got something right

But they have done an amazing job of finding a new way of refereeing.

Your damn right they’ve found a new way of refereeing
