Chasing the same declining demographic as their lead publication, Football Scotland has conjured up some figures to disprove the myth that Rangers get more penalties than any other club.
Except that the stats provided show that over the last six years the Ibrox club has had more penalties than any other club with Celtic the main rivals.
Rather than trust the reports from the Daily Record, Football Scotland has turned to Transfermarkt.com which strangely doesn’t include post-split fixtures in their stats, producing an SPFL Premiership season of 33 matches.
Again, do the penalty differential (received – conceded) for the league over the same period.
2018-19 to present day:Rangers = +43
Celtic = +15
Kilmarnock = +9
Hearts = +82022-23 only:
Rangers = +10
Motherwell = +4
Hearts = +4
Dutd = +4
St Johnstone = +1
Celtic = 0 https://t.co/15nhhUsWjP— Lint (@Zeshankenzo) November 13, 202
Over the six years covered the team that has finished runners-up five times has received more penalties than the champions.
Penalties awarded is only half the story of course, they can be awarded at the other end but Sunday’s match at Livingston made it 67 matches without a referee pointing to the penalty spot in the SPFL.
Kevin Clancy was the culprit in January 2022 at Pittodrie, soon after a letter of complaint from Ibrox to the SFA was leaked to Sky Sports which has served as a reminder to referees ever since.
The current run without conceding a penalty follows on from a 44 match run which ended at St Johnstone in April 2021 when Euan Anderson awarded the home side a stoppage time penalty.
Try penalties against! Also context is everything! Penalties when it matters!

Last season Celtic were awarded seven penalties and conceded the same amount, across the city the figure was Plus 10 as James Tavernier went through the 100 goals barrier.
Rangers have now had two runs of 44 league games without conceding a penalty in just over 3 years.
1st run of 44 from January 2020 to April 2021.
2nd run of 44 from January 2022 to March 2023 (present day)
2 runs this close together is what sets this apart. https://t.co/e5jrcBS1Yj

I wonder if there could be a penalty to be paid for them getting all those penalties.
As the only Bookmakers to take piss out of the tribute act Paddy Power should throw it out there in an advert that they will no longer accept bets on sevco getting a penalty,or should Tavpen score a goal that being a penalty the bet is VOID.
The SMSM should be all over this, 110 games with only one penalty against them. Instead they are trying to justify it!!!
Bloody Hell – These are utterly ASTONISHING figures…
I must find a T-shirt maker to print them on and tour on buses to alert the general public as it looks according to the blog that The Scottish Football Media won’t do it for sure !
