Impossible to fathom- Jackson hits out at key VAR decision in Celtic match

Keith Jackson has hit out at the decision to allow Slobodan Rubezic to continue playing against Celtic despite his sickening attack on Kyogo Furuhashi.

Early in the second half the Aberdeen defender charged dangerously into his opponent as Kyogo headed the ball unaware of the ‘challenge’ coming his way.

Willie Collum viewed the incident, decided that it was a foul but only worth a yellow card.

As Kyogo was treated on the turf attention switched to John Beaton in the VAR studio with an expectation that he’d suggest his colleague goes trackside to take a fresh look at the incident. Beaton saw nothing worth reviewing.

Covering the incident in the Daily Record in relation to Celtic supporters inside the ground, Jackson reports:

That they reacted so angrily to the horrible clash of heads which saw Slobodan Rubezic wiping out Kyogo and leaving him in a motionless heap, was a sign of how deeply they do care for the plight of this team and the wellbeing of its star performers in particular. And yet another reminder that the role of the video assistant referee in Scottish football is becoming almost impossible to fathom.

It shouldn’t have required graphic slow motion replays for the officials to work out that Rubezic’s over aggression had endangered the safety of an opponent. Not when the opponent in question was lying sparked out on the ground. But the Montenegrin escaped with a yellow card even though the TV pictures made his actions seem even more reckless and despite the fact that Kyogo had to be helped off the field looking like he’d just been knocked into the middle of next week.

Judging that challenge as a yellow car sets a dangerous precedent, it would be difficult to pinpoint a more dangerous incident with clear consequences for an opponent.

The SFA does have the power to take retrospective action but that would undermine two of their top match officials.

Any further punishment could see Rubezic suspended for Aberdeen’s next match- at home to Philippe Clement’s side on November 26.

The SFA/SPFL “WILL” sanction the Aberdeen player but NOT for the dangerous challenge on Kyogo but because he won’t be able to play against “the rangers” and appear to be cracking down on dangerous attacks….on a different matter I would like to hear the SFA/SPFL reasoning (excuse) for “the rangers” playing before CELTIC given CELTIC played Tuesday and “the rangers” played Thursday …. and both were on the same TV channel…. maybe they were thinking about Aberdeen …..aye right

Great comment exactly along the lines I was thinking.
But for two ‘top’ Scottish refs (one on VAR) to agree it was only a yellow is an utter disgrace and it’s high time that arsehole Lawwell got into the faces of the SFA/SPFL/LRA and protected our players from consistent and dangerous assaults.
BTW, a reasonable comment from someone (KJ) I’ve often referred to as a “muppet” or worse!

      • Nicky Bhoy says:

Keith Jackson is a “muppet” and worse as he is simply trying to influence the SFA /SPFL to apply a red card retrospectively to help his own team against Sevco FC next week. He wants “justice” for all the wrong reasons. The man is a Hun.

I did a count on this ‘playing before’ malarkey last season…

Sevco got to play before Celtic EIGHTEEN times – Celtic got to play first a meagre SIX times…

Like the game show Family Fortunes absolutely EVERYONE wanted to play ‘first’ and put the pressure on their opponents…

That is one ridiculous ‘anomaly’ in favour of Sevco –

They’re doing it in plain sight nowadays in whatever sphere in this rancid, rancid football country…

That did annoy me last year and I’m not putting maself through it this season –

The ‘anomalies’ might be slightly closer this season as we’re on Tuesday and Wednesday in The Champions League and Sevco are on Thursday in The Europa League…

But as sure as night follows day it’ll still end out that Sevco will get to play before us many more times than we will ever get to play before them !

  • Tam says:

Following on from my previous “little rant” will the SFA/SPFL get involved with not 1 grade 1 referee but 2 grade 1 referees “cheating” in the same game..will Crawford Allan have his say on his referees interpretation of the “rules” …. the last time he publicly denounced a referee he left Scottish football to officiate in England….had CELTIC been involved in a referee leaving Scottish football you would “still” be reading and hearing about it to this day

  • Keith says:

Don’t buy this jackass deflection away from the shocking decision at Livi….
Also sanctioned by EBT..A MEAN VAR….

  • harold shand says:

Win 6-0 with key players missing

8 points clear and 7 goals better off

The other mob have had what is now , 6 penalties in the last fortnight ?

Yet we have Hugh Keevins and Keith Jackson trying to put it out there that we’re in trouble

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

For Fcuks sake – That that particular Sevco loving article is even ‘sort of’ sticking up for Kyogo says it all really…

Yet former Celtic player (well really wage thief) Mark Wilson says he ‘can see the argument for the yellow card’ but possibly also the red one too –

Wilson should be screaming from the rooftops for a red card…

But he’d never see another fat BBC Scotland pay cheque if he did that and he knows that fine well –

There truly are some utter scumbag ex Celtic players operating in The Scottish Football Media…

And Mark Wilson is one of the very worst of them –

A dirty wage thief throughout most of his time at Parkhead with ‘injuries’

But we know that you won’t be in the slightest bit ashamed Wilson…

I’ve probably got more respect for Mark Hateley than I do for Mark Wilson –

And Jesus – That is sayin something indeed…

Wilson is the scum of the earth in ma eyes these days !

  • Terence Nova says:

The final paragraph suggests to me, that it will be re-visited …and he’ll miss the Sevco game….How convenient.

  • Tam says:

I was astonished reading Keith Jackson’s piece on VAR ….not because he could not “fathom” why VAR didn’t intervene …. because he could not bring himself to tell everyone that 2 grade 1 referees “cheated” 1 with a whistle “collum” and the other cheater with all the VAR technology “beaton”….. will Keith Jackson ask Crawford Allan to explain ….if the punishment for cheating is NO punishment why stop cheating…. that would be a good question for Keith Jackson to ask Crawford Allan “if” he ever speaks to him. Because he won’t print it. Or Mr Allan’s reply “if” he ever does ask him

  • John mcghee says:

He will probably get a red card if its newco they’re playing next masonic fuckpigs

  • John mcghee says:

I can honestly see 1 of the officials getting hurted badly if one of their decisions cost celtic points our maybe a title because thats the way its looking right now might dont forget when beale was manager ranjurs were struggling and still are but this new manager seems to be getting alot of penalty s for some reason that board at paradise should get tae fuck and i hope the fans turn on them shower of Tories fuckpigs get them out dirty rats..

  • Davie says:

Childish ranting does no good, many of these comments with the language used are not required.

I have been involved in more serious tackles at amateur level, if a celtic player did the same tackle he would be HAILed a hero.

Further sanctions against the Aberdeen Player should be disregarded, a yellow is more than ample.

I agree with penalty Rangers & the fall over tactics they deploy, that should be scrutinised.

As a Celtic fan I would much rather we get our respect for others back and deal with issues through the correct methods.

    Support & SING for Celtic.

    Hail Hail
