Neil Warnock reveals his Celtic wish

Neil Warnock has admitted that he has always wanted to manage Celtic.

The veteran boss has become something of a Championship specialist, either steering clubs away from relegation or to promotion, usually through the play-offs.

At the age of 74 his entire career has been spent playing and managing in England but with offers thinning out he seems keen to highlight his availability to Scottish clubs.

Malky Mackay became the fourth Premiership boss to be sacked when he was replaced by Derek Adams with David Martindale and Derek McInnes the only top flight bosses that have been in their current job for more than two years.

Listening to Warnock on Sky Sports the Daily Record reports him saying:

I’ve always wanted to have a go at Celtic or Rangers. I love Rangers and am a Rangers fan down here, only because Ally McCoist, Rangers, and me and him against Alan Brazil, who’s mad Celtic. I remember going to Celtic when Gordon Strachan was there, he invited me into the office, great day.

The passion, Celtic and Rangers fans. But I have always thought the same about the Edinburgh clubs, Nick Montgomery is one of my former players and now managing Hibernian, so I hope they do really well.

I remember applying for the Aberdeen job and never got a reply. I remember asking one of my ex-players who was at Aberdeen what it’s like up there. He went ‘gaffer, it’s the only place the Seagulls never land!

Whether the last gag is about the weather or whatever it seems that Warnock is keen to get involved with a job in Scotland, his last management job was at Huddersfield in February when he took over from Mark Fotheringham and Kenny Miller to steer the club away from relegation to League One.

The guy is a Hun through and through, when he comes to Scotland always goes and sees them, under no circumstances would I ever want him anywhere near Celtic Park in any form what so ever

  • Magua says:

Perhaps someone should remind the Warnock fella that Rangers do not exist anymore.

    Hail Hail.

  • Scout@1970 says:

He’s just gone another prick hun ?

  • john mc guire says:

why give this clown anytime to say anything about our club the only thing he is good at is bungs in a brown paper bag.FUD.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

A ‘Rangers’ (deceased c.2012) fan only because of Ally McCoist !

Jeez Oh – Strange reason indeed – Could see the reasoning if he was a woman and it was 40 years ago…

Perhaps he loved him at Sunderland (Though I think he’s a Sheffield United fan)…

Another strange thing for ‘an out and out Hun’ is wanting to manage Celtic – There again look at what Jock stein achieved for The Hoops –

And Quelle Surprise – Miller dumping a team (Huddersfield Town) in the relegation zone…

Though he did well outta his short three year contract (as did Fotheringham)…

Warnock truly is a specialist at taking clubs in Championship relegation trouble and saving them time after time and he resurrected Miller’s mess at Huddy by keeping them up on the last day or thereabouts…

Ironic if he is a ‘basket case club resurrecter’ and supports Sevco all the same !

  • Captain Swing says:

As a dyed in the wool Sheffield United fan, he once said he’d love to manage Wednesday in order to get them relegated. He is a bit of a ‘marmite’ character by any standard – Sheffield Wednesday fans (and many others who hate him!) refer to him as ‘Colin Wanker’ as it’s a rather brilliant anagram of his name…..
