David Dickinson will be on VAR duty for Celtic’s match against Motherwell on Saturday.
At the start of the month he was nodding and smiling with Philippe Clement after their team scored against Hearts in the semi-final of the League Cup, Dickinson was Fourth Official that day with Nick Walsh in charge.
The video clip on Dickinson’s Hampden joy went viral soon after the match as more details emerged about his background. Uncle David in Australia also supports the 2012 Tribute Act while his Mother Eileen shared an image from inside Ibrox as she attended a pre-season friendly with her son in charge.
Unlike in England where match officials are kept away from fixtures of clubs that they support, and their rivals, the SFA have a far more relaxed approach to conflicts of interest.
Steven McLean will referee Saturday’s match, his brother Brian was a one time Murray Park starlet, internationally he made two appearances for the north of Ireland before it was discovered that he was ineligible.
Rising star in the refereeing circuit, Walsh spends his working week helping the fitness of Murray Park starlets.
Two years ago Ian Bankier told the Celtic AGM that the club had deep concerns about Scottish referees, Celtic’s main competitor in the SPFL is on a 67 match run of not having a penalty awarded against them in the SPFL.

Meet Uncle David, will no doubt be privately wishing his nephew good luck on Saturday.
We’re very excited for the Scottish Cup Final this weekend as we will be seeing some familiar faces!
David Dickinson and Graeme Stewart have been appointed referees in the Scottish Cup final to take place at Hampden Park on Saturday, 3rd June.
Congratulations to the both of you. pic.twitter.com/UzbCltXzT9— Sports Labs (@SportsLabsLtd) June 1, 2023
Change the record. Not one person from the club speaks out so what’s the point. Same shit every week. The best thing to do is don’t go to game. If no cash coming in then they will take notice.
Well you’ve done your bit Joe…I now await our Club to formally protest this guy’s involvement……Oh…sorry…my meds have arrived.
Editor: AGM is well timed.
I hope that supporters will stop going…but it won’t happen Stevie…All talk …no action…Oh and I genuinely believe that Sevco and the SFA have evidence of our involvement in stuff, that our Club would rather stay hidden…SILENCE IS GOLDEN.
Editor. Nail on head.
5-Way Agreement.
Lawwell’s “never seen it”.
Lawwell’s a disgusting FN LIAR!
Truth is whilst Lawwell’s involvement in getting the 5-Way through is significant, he’s not alone in that as just about ALL of Scottish football’s top men are aware of it and were complicit in it. It would finish Lawwell at CP and I’d welcome that. It would also force change within football from top to bottom and I’d welcome that too. It would also bring into the open the truth that Rangers FC died in 2012 and potential title-stripping for the EBT years, so ALL GOOD. Nothing contentious 🙂
It’s a mystery how they’ve kept a ‘lid’ on it until now but even Lawwell has less to fear than Doncaster and all the rest of them. Lawwell’s time is almost up anyway.
AND, the’ve all conspired in an illegal FRAUD and should face the consequences and fraud is NOT time-barred. I live in hope!
So let me get this right
A guy who was seen to react with such delight at sevco getting a 2nd goal in a cup semi final .
Is put in charge of VAR the 2nd game after his sevco mask slips.
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG.
Well you’ve done your bit Joe…I now await our Club to formally protest this guy’s involvement……Oh…sorry…my meds have arrived.
As cheap as chips and certainly not a ‘Bobby Dazzler ! ‘
He won’t be smiling at Parkhead as it’s not his Paradise…
He will be in The VAR room though when he orders McLean to disallow a ligit Celtic Goal And award Motherwell a penalty that never was !
