Ianis Hagi is ninth in the list of players under-25 in terms of ‘expected threat’ according to Football Scotland.

The digital wing of the Daily Record demonstrates the same tunnel vision as the legacy newspaper as they serve up comforting moonbeams for a very narrow and not so lucrative target audience.

Rather than taking a fresh new look at the game Football Scotland appears desperate to provide comforting tales for Gordy, Stewarty, Billy and Cameron with Hagi a good name to shoehorn into a story to hit the not so lucrative Romanian market.

Signed on loan in January 2020 then converted into a permanent deal in the summer the surname is still churning out content in inverse relationship to achievements on the park.

Football Scotland reports:

In Spain so far, the 25-year-old has two goals, although both came in the Copa Del Rey. In the league, he has played eight games with one assist registered so far. But he is starting most games and that will help him build fitness and confidence.

These ‘on the surface’ stats don’t always tell the full story and there is a metric which shows he is not too far behind superstars like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

According to Wyscout, Hagi places ninth for players 25 and under for ‘expected threat’. His is 0.78 with Haaland and Mbappe the top two with 1.06 apiece.

When your manager signs Todd Cantwell and Sam Lammers to play in your position only a complete idiot wouldn’t realise that his face no longer fits.

Hagi went overboard on social media over his love for all things staunch but after coming on as a substitute against Morton he was sent on loan to Alaves.

So far he has yet to complete a full 90 minutes in La Liga, five times he has been substituted with three appearances off the bench.

Despite those bang average stats the Record and Football Scotland will be linking the Romanian ace with a big money move in January if he manages to string together three successive passes to his own team-mates.
