A report from the USA has claimed that Fran Alonso is about to be appointed as the manager of Houston Dash.

After four years of success at Celtic where he has taken the job on with passion and enthusiasm a switch to the United States makes sense for the Madrid born coach.

His passion for the game and the way that he has embraced all things Celtic has given the Ladies team an identity with the highlight being May’s Scottish Cup Final win at Hampden in front of more than 10,000 Celtic supporters.

Equaliser Soccer reports:

The Houston Dash have reached a deal to make Fran Alonso the new head coach of the National Women’s Soccer League club, multiple sources confirmed to The Equalizer. An official announcement is expected soon.

The Spaniard will depart Celtic FC after three and half seasons leading the Glasgow club in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. Celtic (14-1-1) currently sits second in the league, three points behind local Glasgow rivals Rangers FC.

Under Alonso’s leadership, Celtic twice won the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup but could not capture the SWPL league title. However, Celtic did finish runner-up in two of Alonso’s three seasons and also qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions League preliminary rounds. Known for his passion and flair, he closes out his time in Glasgow with a 79% win record, and an average of 3.72 goals scored per match.

A Houston Dash spokesperson declined to comment. A spokesperson from Celtic did not reply to a request for comment.

The Ladies game in Scotland stands at a crossroads with three full-time professional clubs competing among themselves while handing out massive victories, sometimes in double figures to their league opponents.

That sort of set up makes real growth difficult to achieve with no obvious way out of developing the team or the SWPL.

Home matches on Airdrie’s plastic pitch have failed to pull in crowds but helped by the Green Brigade and the Celtic Wall the matches played at Celtic Park have had a great atmosphere.
