Christmas 2023 is going to be that bit more special for David Dickinson.
As an extra treat from his friends at the SFA he will get to meet his Ibrox heroes and take charge of their SPFL clash against Motherwell at Fir Park.
Growing up in Renfrew no Christmas was complete without unwrapping a new Rainjurztap or a pair of club pyjamas with other gifts ranging from wallpaper, to teddy bears or a rubber duck for the bath-time.
Uncle David would sometime provide a musical instrument just to ensure that young David grew up loyal and true.
Dickinson is one of the rising stars in the SFA refereeing stable, groomed by veterans like Hugh Dallas, Willie Young and Stuart Dougal to perform to expectations.
Over the last three seasons he has graduated into getting top flight with some ‘baffling’ decisions on VAR accelerating his climb up the refereeing ladder masterminded by Crawford Allan.
The joy of being up close to his heroes was evident during last month’s League Cup Final between Hearts and Sevco with television viewers highlighting his happiness at a goal from Scott Wright.
With a trip to the away dressing room scheduled for Fir Park on Sunday Dickinson’s family are in for some special signed goods when they sit down to watch Christmas Day television with a special toast around 3pm.
Ayrshire’s finest Greg Aitken will be on VAR duty assisted by former Policeman Graeme Stewart who quickly changed career after a £500 fine for assault and choking someone called Charles O’Donnell while on duty.
