Keith Jackson has put the blame for Celtic’s disastrous summer signings on Ange Postecoglou!

The Daily Record reporter has launched a fierce defence of Peter and Mark Lawwell as anger among Celtic fans turns to the club Chairman with his hopeless son now in charge of recruitment.

Peter’s last two newspaper interviews were both with Jackson. In June 2020 he told his friend about plans to have supporters watching test matches inside Celtic Park, no fans attended matches until July 2021.

After hearing of the death of Walter Smith, Lawwell turned to their mutual friend to express his grief.

There has been virtually no comment from Celtic since Saturday’s defeat from Hearts with SACK THE BOARD and a chant aimed at both Lawwell’s emerged in the last 15 minutes of the match. Chairman Peter didn’t attend the match.

Now in a bid to absolve Senior and Mini from blame Jackson has claimed that the manager that brought Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Josip Juranovic, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Carl Starfelt, Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers to Celtic was the driving force that lumbered Brendan Rodgers with Tilio, Holm, Yang, Kwon, Lagerbielke, Nawrocki and Palma!

Sharing his thoughts with Daily Record readers, Jackson gives his insight into the disastrous summer recruitment:

Rodgers took a back seat in the summer at a time when Lawwell’s son Mark was heading up a £20million recruitment drive. The new manager may technically have rubber-stamped many or even all of those signings but these ‘projects’ were not his idea.

Instead there was a period of overlap between Postecoglou’s sudden departure and Rodgers’ return. Celtic had to get on with business during those weeks and it feels safe to assume the former boss had a hand in putting those plans in place.

Postecoglou’s working relationship with Lawwell Jnr, after all, had been long established.

At Celtic’s recent agm current chief executive Michael Nicholson revealed the Aussie personally handpicked the young Lawwell for the position, an endorsement made on the back of their time together at the City Group.

It was this relationship that first brought Postecoglou to the attention of Lawwell Snr when Eddie Howe was humming and hawing over the prospect of diving into Glasgow’s goldfish bowl. So suggestions of nepotism don’t hold much water even if there are some Celtic fans who have decided otherwise.

Incredibly, despite trying to take John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan to Spurs Postecoglou was happy to get on with the job without Lawwell Mini.

When Eddie Howe resigned from Bournemouth in August 2020 he announced that he was taking a year out of football, he was never in contention to replace Neil Lennon although it was a comforting story to hold onto with no one in Europe prepared to go near the shambles created by the outgoing CEO.

Mark had no experience of transfer dealing in his minor background role on the City Football Group website with no information available about what job when he was doing prior to joining the CFG.

His claim on Linkedin that he was Head of Recruitment and Scouting at the CFG from 2012 isn’t correct. There isn’t a shred of evidence to suggest that he had such a senior title or involvement in any transfers at Yokohama F Marinos.

It is unlikely that Postecoglou will be over bothered by events at Celtic but his legacy is being tarnished by the claim that he insisted on the appointment of Lawwell Mini and was the driving force behind possibly the worst transfer window ever, certainly since January 2019 when the then CEO signed up Burke, Bayo, Shved, Guttman, Perez and Toljan with only Timo Weah making any sort of positive contribution.

Should Peter and Mark Lawwell be removed from their jobs?

    Pure spin.

  • Redmond says:

Even the fact that PL uses THAT paper shows how misaligned he is with the values of Celtic and the support – it is enough on its own to get him to f#@k

    • Stewart says:

So big Peter doing a bito fire fighting then,,,he won’t do much of that by using an accelerant like that sillybilly Jackson, if its true he has it just show how detached he must be from the fan base, nobhead

  • Gordon Raeburn says:

Jackson is trolling us with this pathetic attempt to absolve his pals the Lawwells. Celtic fans know exactly who is to blame for this shitshow and it isn’t Ange. I just wish Desmond, the Lawwells, the puppet Nicholson and all the faceless Tories on the board would just go now and put the club in the hands of people who DO care.

  • Seppington says:

“…Michael Nicholson revealed the Aussie personally handpicked the young Lawwell for the position…”

Revealed? Or straight-up lied to the shareholders and fans? Given his master’s history of bullshit (i.e. “I have never read the 5-way agreement”) I would not be in the least surprised. Nor am I surprised the tone-deaf fool that is Lawwell is using this hack of all hacks to spread his rubbish once more. A pair of absolute shitebags, a match made in Hell, a place the can both burn in for all eternity…and the sooner the better!

  • Tony B says:

Nepotism and cronyism is rife in the Celtic board and by definition means that the best people aren’t in the job.

If you select on the basis of being your pals or relatives, you are not selecting on ability.

  • john clarke says:

The season is nowhere finished. Marco Tilio is the closest player to
Jota Neves Celtic has. Three of these names are good signings. They need game-time..
Not all are duds. .If Jackson got the Ange signing names from an “in-the -know” staff member of Celtic, that informant is a Prick and should leave the Club.
Celtic Firsts have 33 squad players, about 4 too many.

Just read Jackson’s article, amd came straight here to gauge the outrage!

[Or is that entitlement?! 🙂 ]

That has to a straightforward, copy / paste article direct from PL?

The ignorant Chairman could have picked anyone else but Jackson and The DR.

Apart from being labelled ‘entitled’, a couple of other points made me laugh.

    Nepotism.

The supposed ‘journalist’ obviously doesn’t have a Scooby what that word means.

    Also this quote:

“A section of the club’s supporters didn’t want [PL] back and that militant cohort…”

Well, I think it’s fair to say that the majority of the support didn’t want PL back.

Plus, the entire stadium on Saturday was quite explicit about their thoughts on PL!

And most strikingly: this “militant cohort” – which I presume he means the GB? –

wasn’t even in the stadium. That was your ‘average’ punter letting PL and the

Board know exactly what they thought about their stewardship of our club.

    And as a separate observation:

still silence from our ‘CEO’ Nicholson at a time of potential crisis.

As if we had any doubts: PL is the ‘Executive Chairman’, in practice if not in title.

    🙁

    • Bob (original) says:

      And for a laugh…

      1) Did the ‘Non Exec’ Chairman PL run his puff piece past CEO Nicholson first…?

      2) Did the CEO give his approval to use The DR?

Nicholson would clearly know that an article placed in The DR would just antagonise

the support even more – when bridges need building instead?

The CEO should immediately punt the NED Chairman for gross insubordination!

[It would be funny though – and Nicholson would be bullet-proof thereafter! 🙂 ]

  • Scud Missile says:

Jackass Jackson the BOOZE JOCKEYS next article will be that when Roy walks or gets booted out the door,LENNON another BOOZE JOCKEY will be forced on us with Jackass doing the sellong part of it guided by LIEWELL and that BAWBAG of son of his.

  • Scud Missile says:

Lennon is the perfect yes man for LIEWELL to bring in,no huffs or puffs he will just shovel the shite thrown at him from LIEWELL.

  • Scud Missile says:

Look at that photo above of that FAT BASTARD LIEWELL laughing all the way to bank.

  • John Copeland says:

I’ve noticed that all the ‘neutral’ and ‘ impartial ‘ daily Record sports scoops are all at the same bollox reporting . David McCarthy types up that Clement KNOWS that he will win the title but wants to keep it quiet ….he being the only scoop that the Belgian has confided in , obviously ? As I said …bollox reporting !

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

By you noticing them typing up and as you rightly say bollox reporting John you’re keeping them in a job as I assume that your supporting them financially either through purchase or online…

I’ve certainly never heard of a guy called David McCarthy (I wonder if he’s Celtic minded given his surname) but nah probably not or he wouldn’t be employed there –

I think every right minded Celtic fan will rejoice when that guy and the rest are on the dole…

Can’t come a day too soon for me anyway !

Editor: David McCarthy is certainly not Celtic minded. Highlighting ‘articles’ like this increases scrutiny of the Record, I suspect it damages credibility, they do have some, and leads in some way to smaller sales.

Print advertising props up their online operations, with print sales falling below 50k at some stage next year their Army of Readers will soon have to find alterative news sources.

  • Eldraco says:

Ange went after tilio, yang. Thats a given. Possibly the others imo BUT what you forget it was with his vision and system in mind.

Where rodgers has fallen down is his inability to get a tune or adapt his system to suit. This failure shows up rodgers lack of quality.

Editor: Tilio had been scouted by Celtic for three years, Ange wasn’t interested. Ange leaves and Mini races to get an injured winger signed up. Next transfer window and back to A-League on loan.

  • Stevie says:

Well he also bought pish and fckd off

  • bertie basset says:

You have to ask yourself why would he be endorsing these two ? unless he wish’s for them to remain , the elder lemon of course has previous , hamstringing the 10
