Celtic have the option to play their B team in the Lowland League for the next two seasons.

The hoops are currently in their third season playing in the 5/6th tier of the Scottish game, sitting in 10th place with seven wins, eight defeats and three draws to their name.

Playing in the Lowland League has provided regular fixtures which have mainly helped in preparing 16 and 17-year-olds for senior football but it hasn’t assisted the trickle of players coming into the top team squad.

Ben Summers, Ben McPherson, Matthew Anderson and Tobi Oluwayemi are all currently out on loan with Mitchel Frame’s 15 minutes of action against Feyenoord the only movement between the B team and Brendan Rodgers’ squad this season.

Last night the Lowland League announced:

The Scottish Lowland Football League can confirm that the majority of our members have voted in favour of continuing with B Teams for at least the next 2 seasons.

Following a process which began in October, a democratic vote was held in line with our rules at a General Meeting tonight.

The Board would like to thank all our members for their contributions to the discussions in recent weeks.

Previously permission has been granted season by season, last night’s vote offers some continuity, having had a vote it seems likely that Celtic have indicated that they wish to continue playing at this level.

In addition to the Lowland League Celtic’s u-19s have played in the UEFA Youth League with virtually the same squad competing in the u-21 EPL International Cup where they have played clubs such as West Ham and Brighton, tomorrow they play Chelsea at Kingsmeadow Stadium.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I’m not in favour of Celtic B, Sevco B, or Hearts B being in this league…

It’s very unfair to the other competing teams –

I would be apoletic with rage if they tried this in The Highland League to the detriment of The mighty Clachnacuddin FC !
