Alexandro Bernabei is apparently hot property with Italian clubs reported to be keen on signing the defender.

Celtic spent £3.5m signing the 24-year-old from Argentinian side Lanus in the summer of 2022 but this season he has been restricted to just four appearances off the bench.

It looked ominous when Bernabei was left out of Celtic’s Champions League squad with little in his substitute appearances suggesting that he is pushing for a first team spot.

Major movement is expected at Celtic next month, in The Sun David Friel reports:

ALEXANDRO BERNABEI is poised to make a January exit from Celtic.

SunSport understands there is interest in the Argentine left-back, 24, from clubs in his homeland and Italy.

Bernabei joined Celts from Lanus for £3.5million 18 months ago, but he has failed to establish himself.

He came off the bench in Saturday’s defeat to Hearts but has played just 71 minutes for Brendan Rodgers all season.

Celtic are keen on Estoril’s £4million-rated Tiago Araujo as they seek competition for Greg Taylor and Bernabei could be moved on, with loan and permanent offers expected.

The Argentina Under-23 cap holds an Italian passport, and would be keen on a move there.

But he remains highly-rated back home and will have no shortage of options when the Primera Division window opens in late January.

Leaving a year and a half into a five year contract doesn’t look good on Celtic’s Recruitment team with Bernabei joining in the same window as Sead Haksabanovic, Ben Siegrist and Oliver Abildgaard with none of that quartet making the Champions League squad a year after joining.

Apart from his height Araujo has a similar profile to Bernabei having played less than 50 league matches for Estoril having moved on from Benfica during the same window that Celtic signed the Argentinian.

In February 2021 Friel got the exclusive news that Neil Lennon was leaving Celtic, eight hours before the Stock Market announcement.

Another expensive failure…whose off-field antics might explain his on-field crap…We are well rid…Oh and as a former winger…I can confidently say that Mikey’s performance on Saturday was nothing like a winger’s…Absolute shit he was…Disgraceful.
