Celtic have been linked with a move for Vaclay Hladky.

The one time St Mirren keeper is having the season of his life as Ipswich Town chase back-to-back promotions that would propel them back into the EPL- two seasons after Hladky moved to Portman Road from Salford City.

With his club on course to hit the EPL jackpot Hladky is out of contract at the end of the season with a report from the Czech Republic claiming ‘the famous Celtic have shown interest again’.

At some stage in 2024 Celtic will have to address the goalkeeper issue either with a new contract for Joe Hart or the unlikely promotion of Scott Bain or Ben Siegrist to first choice.

Isport reports:

It looks like a fairy tale, after all, Ipswich Town with Vaclav Hladky in goal is on a great way to the Premier League. The Championship rookie holds second place after 22 rounds, which means direct promotion among the elite, and Hladky – without exaggeration – shines.

However, his contract with the club expires in June 2024, and the continuation of the 33-year-old goalkeeper has yet to be resolved. In addition, everything can be complicated by the fact that, according to information from iSport and sources from Scotland, the famous Celtic have shown interest in him again.

After running through details of his time at Ipswich they add:

And from January, Hladky can sign a new contract valid from July 1, 2024 with impunity because his current one ends at the end of June.

Which, of course, registers the competition, including brands from Glasgow, although this time, according to editorial information and sources from Scotland, only Celtic is in the game.

The situation is also monitored by units from the elite PL, who can imagine Hladky as a number two.

We are registering inquiries, which is understandable given Vaclav’s performances, the position of Ipswich and the expiring contract. However, the priority is to agree on an extension and advance to the Premier League,” explains the player’s agent Martin Stepanovsky.

Hladky turned 33 last month which is likely to go against him in transfer terms but Hart came to Celtic at that age and made an instant impact on how a new look defence knitted together.

The same amount of surgery isn’t currently required but with Hart’s recent erratic form and contract position Hladky is likely to be under consideration from Celtic.

Love a bit of google translate. Always brightens up my morning. And I was relieved to learn it was a guy who is at least shining at the top of the English Championship – given the past performance of our much-derided head of recruitment I feared it would be some ‘keeper from Morton or Arbroath… or from the second tier somewhere like Thailand.

  • Bob (original) says:

    Sounds about right:

out of contract at season end, so his promotion-chasing

team is unlikley to offer him a new contract now:

i.e. a cheap / free signing for Lawwell?

This guy is 33 and Hart is 36, so it could also just be a short-term fix ?

Arguably though, the keeper is perhaps the most important position in any team,

and we should be spending the cash to buy the best we can

    – reasonably – afford?

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Hate to say this but sometimes one has to be honest about things…

So if Celtic really wants to get a decent goalkeeper – a critical division of the team – They really do need to take a leaf outta The Sevco (and Rangers as they were known as then) goalkeeping recruitment book –

They aren’t streets ahead of us in many spheres…

But my goodness they are country miles and light years ahead of us when it comes to goalkeeper recruitment and Boruc and Foster apart have been in my 43 years as a Celtic supporter !

Joe , in all honesty why repost shit like this its beyond shit , it hurts my arse its so beyond normal shit!, joe! For the love of god a decent bog roll give it a rest man.

Editor: Transfer talk from a foreign source is of interest, it is a position that definitely needs improved. If you don’t like my content I’d recommend the good ole CQN for a great diet of feel good stories about how wonderful the Celtic Chairman and his board room visionaries are (lucky to have them).

    • Eldraco says:

Lighten up man , its the craic . No interest in ” feel good ‘ but it does need a tidy up if its obviously taking this piss as opposed to a shit .

You have a merry christmas joe

Editor: Cheers LD, I certainly will #weneverstop

Looks like Lawwell wants to protect that £72 million even at the expense of the huns winning the treble.

The biscuit tin mentality is ingrained in the Celtic boardroom and it seems to me they’re not too bothered whether we win the league or not.

Let’s see what January brings, but I suspect it’ll be the usual dross from clown shoe and sons.

  • Charlie Green says:

If we lose today, I think Rodgers will be resign but if we win we are still in trouble.

We have to beat Sevco and I am not sure that is possible and here’s why.
    We start 5 men short.

    1. We need a good keeper almost anyone in the league would be better. Zander Clarke?
Hart is a cert to start.

    2. James Forrest has scored more than 100 goals but only two against both Ibrox teams and tends to hide. He will be a cert to start.

    3. Mickey Johnson has not taken his chance and would be better going on loan to Aberdeen whose coaches improved Scales and Christie.
He will be a cert to start

4.Kyogo is not the player he was and I believe the head butt has knocked the fight out of him rather than the tactics to blame.
He is a cert to start.

    5. More controversial.
Calum McGregor parades along our 30 yard line from side to side passing constantly to Scales and Carter-Vickers and contributes nothing to the team. Tactics to blame.
He is a cert to start.

The positive is that Sevco only have two players( in strips) Sima and Tavernier and if Maeda can hound the latter out the game as he has done in the past we may have a chance.

So it will be Celtic’s 6 against Sevco’s 5 (inc the 4 officials)

  • John S says:

Goalies tend to have a longer career but at 33 years old is he the long-term solution ?

  • the maister says:

Good name for a Goalkeeper that!

  • the maister says:

We had a goalie in Connor Hazard who won the Scottish Cup for us.
But then we told him where to go!
Just what is going on at Celtic?

  • Anthony McGonigale says:

Never mind the goalkeeper situation what about the other players being linked i.e. McKenna , Miovski and some unknown midfielder ? Is this the proven quality Rodgers is expecting ? If this is the best we can find / afford then don’t bother signing anyone and give the 2 Lawell’s their P45’s. When all our current players are fit none of this lot would get a game so how is this an improvement..

Editor: I get the impression that Rodgers won’t just be nodding through Lawwell’s Bumper List of Soccer Projects this month. Could get interesting, a situation that can’t go on much longer than this season.
