Sunday’s defeat at Kilmarnock brought an unforgiving focus on Celtic’s Summer Recruitment- masterminded by Mark Lawwell and signed off by Brendan Rodgers.
In total three of the 10 made it into the Starting XI at Rugby Park- Tomoki Iwata starting his second match of the season, Nat Phillips standing in for Cameron Carter-Vickers and Luis Palma, the qualifier success.
The Honduran winger has made a positive contribution to quite a few matches but it is a stretch to claim that he’d ave been getting game time last season when Ange Postecoglou was rotating between Jota, Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda.
The other signings could leave in January without anyone noticing although it is highly unlikely that they’ll be offered the same salaries that brought them to Celtic in the summer.
ANY OTHER team in the League would have spent that money more wisely, perhaps even, dare I say it, Sevco!.
Someone should pay for this with their JOB!!— Kapeeteeleest_Peeg ??????? (@OggRaymond) December 10, 2023
In January Rodgers has two wishes- to trim the squad by moving players on while bringing in experienced players of quality. Whether Lawwell Mini knows that type of player and can attract them to the club is very much in doubt.
Even with long term injuries to many of last season’s key players the summer recruits have been unable to make progress. When Abada, Maeda and Reo Hatate return the prospects for the new recruits will be even bleaker.
The January Transfer Window will tell all about the direction Celtic are moving in, the problems are glaringly obvious but there is nothing to suggest that Mark Lawwell’s judgement of players is any better than his Dad who lumbered Postecoglou with Barkas, Ajeti, Bolingoli, Soro, Shved, Bayo and others.
Iwata – I don’t understand how he gets a hard time. I think if he gets a run can be one of our best players

Could’ve bought 2x 10million players!!

2 out of 10 any sort of success so far… Palma, albeit he fades out of games and Iwata looks alright and will be a good backup to our midfield. 20% is a fail in anyone’s book Mr Lawwell.

None. Easy. We are about to go into another transfer window with the same Head of recruitment and scouting, same scouting system, same manager. This is totally unacceptable.

Palma at a stretch but fans are overplaying his decent performances. A bit like Turnbull and Soro in the covid season. Decent stats but leaves us so open on the left handside defensively. Unbelievably greedy as well.

Last 3 windows the only player that’s cemented his place in team is AJ, that’s awful recruiting of what must be around 18 players ?

Most were bought as “projects” We buy players to make money on them not to strengthen the first team.

Not one of they players would have got a sniff under Ange last season, board have sold Rodgers short!

And that’s yet another example of our amateurish, highly paid Board.
The Board members have facilitated nepotism.
If the boy Lawwell is not fit for purpose,
as CEO, does Nicholson have the balls to punt him,
whilst his Daddy is the overbearing Chairman?
A farcical scenario which should simply never be allowed to happen.
BR will be out the door long before Lawwell Jr. 🙁
LIEWELL&Son they remind me of the 2 characters from the Dick Emery show (Roy Kinnear and Dick Emery)from years ago father and son teaming up together only to f**k things up, that’s the LIEWELL’S.
A comedy act and definitely COMEDY GOLD the only thing is we ain’t laughing, but sevco will all the way to bank with the champions league money, all courtesy of Peter Emery to keep the old firm gravy train alive.
The fans need to waken up and smell the coffee, get the BOYCOTTING done PRONTO.
IF the champions league money (£60 million ) ends up in Govan , do you think Desmond would get rid of both lawwells ?
