Not content with winning their Europa League group the Daily Record has gone into full overdrive to comfort their fading, elderly readership.

It seems that Philippe Clement’s side are on course to lift the trophy in Dublin and a Pot One seeding in next season’s Champions League and a run deep into the elite tournament.

Tomorrow the Record will explain what is required to reach next season’s inaugural World Club Cup which will involve 24 teams with a minimum pay-out of £50m heading into Clement’s transfer war-chest.

Most importantly for Record readers it means more money than Selik according to the accountants on the Sports Desk of the Glasgow based tabloid.

As ever the Record is highly selective with their figures, initially they informed their readers of the £252,000 operating profit last season before, three weeks later admitting that it was a £4.1m loss.

Ticket money gets counted into the fanciful Ibrox figures while they are ignored when it comes to Celtic’s European pittance.

With a 60,000 seater capacity and Season Ticket holders paying £46 per game, adding in hospitality Celtic will have brought in around £3m from each Champions League tie.

After deducting VAT, which most clubs do, Celtic can expect to clear more than £7m from their three European matches.

Looking to secure his future at the Record, Ross Pilcher crosses his succulent lamb with moonbeams to come up with

The cash injection that Rangers banked by beating Betis in a Sevilla thriller will boost the Ibrox coffers by €2.5million at least, with further earnings set to trump Celtic’s Champions League prize pot for the first time ever.

In addition to €5million for exiting the Champions League at the playoff round, the Light Blues have earned a €3.6m Europa League starting fee, a €2.9million 10 year coefficient payment, a €1.6m share of the market pool, €4.61m in performance fees and fans have snapped up €7.5m worth of tickets. That takes their total money banked so far to €25.21m. After the poor financial results were released last month, the board will be rubbing their hands.

Now, that’s less than Celtic have collected for their Champions League campaign. The Hoops benefitted to the tune of €34.5 all told after finishing bottom of their group. However, their earning opportunities are over, with the readies still able to roll in for their rivals.

They’ve already surpassed their total earnings from the 2022 run to the final in Seville. All in, that provided an £18.1m windfall. After conversion, they are already sitting at £21.5m for this season, and based on the 2022 figures, they could boost that by another £8m.

Logic like that explains why the Record’s Army of Readers has shrunk to just over 55,000, before the season ends every Record reader should be able to fit inside Ibrox.

Despite their constant negative spinning the Record remains a trusted partner of Celtic with Keith Jackson getting Peter Lawwell’s last two on the record interviews.

‘Rangers’ have reached a Euro final and won important Euro games. We have to accept this. Celtic board have let us all down

It is full on pro the Ranger good news just in time for the cup final on Sunday . Alongside anti Aberdeen tales aplenty the SMSM will dish out nothing but glorious and fabulous stories about their pet project until Sunday . Rory Loy – the BBC Sportsound rabbler , admitted that he hated and did not understand Barry Robson ‘ s ‘ constant ‘ moaning last night even after Aberdeen had beaten Eintracht Frankfurt . Not a congratulations in sight from a ‘neutral ‘ so called scoop ! This is the ‘quality ‘ of Scottish sports reporting we have to endure every week ! They will all be desperate to give their bit and encouragement right up to Sunday and beyond .How much is a one way ticket to Mars these days ? If the tribute act win on Sunday ,that’s where I’m off to ….we will never hear the end of it .

While players like MacGregor are happy to play tippy tappy football the Sevco players work their proverbial socks off for the team. Everyone of them is happy to run with the ball, make inroads into the opposition half .
On wednesday he was almost playing second goalkeeper and when he did venture fourth he was pointing the midfield to pass backwards, running about like a headless chicken. I am not saying he is not a good player but the way he is used is a joke.
