Willie Collum made it 70 SPFL matches without having a penalty awarded against the Ibrox club with a typical performance at Tynecastle last night.

Every contact on a visiting player saw them fall to the ground with a free-kick awarded, with four substitute breaks in the second half the Lanarkshire referee played just an extra three minutes while across the country at Celtic Park John Beaton found five extra minutes.

It is those small margins that can turn draws into victories and defeats into draws.

The run goes back to January 2022 at Pittodrie when Kevin Clancy pointed to the penalty spot with Lewis Ferguson converting to earn Aberdeen a draw.

Two managers and two UK Prime Ministers later Clancy will be in charge of Dundee’s visit to Ibrox on Sunday with the Dens Park side knowing what to expect.

Collum hasn’t refereed a Glasgow Derby since April 2022, last night’s performance and his role in the 70 match run will put him in contention for the December 30 clash on Sky Sports.
