The Celtic squad, with three changes from the side at St Johnstone, responded exactly as Brendan Rodgers demanded to his stinging criticism of the performance in Perth.

There has been some strong hints over what went on in the half-time team talk at McDiarmid Park but it would only be hot air without the right reaction.

Tomoki Iwata, Mikey Johnston and Oh Hyeon-gyu came into the starting XI as Celtic bared their teeth to beat Hibs 4-1 to maintain their eight point lead at the top of the Premiership.

There was a greater purpose and variety to their play that opponents couldn’t handle, balls were fired into the penalty box- the hoops even scored from a corner with Oh’s fifth minute effort knocking Hibs out of their stride.

Iwata put in a very effective 90 plus minutes as a holding midfielder, releasing Callum McGregor into a more advanced role that Hibs couldn’t cope with.

The only downside to the match was the half-time substitution of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Rodgers explained that as precautionary after the defender felt the tightening of a hamstring.

On a freezing November night that isn’t a good sign, the former Spurs defender will be watched closely before Sunday’s trip to Kilmarnock on a plastic pitch that is unforgiving with injuries.
