Chris Sutton called out his Sky Sports colleague Kris Boyd as the former Kilmarnock striker waffled utter nonsense about Celtic’s January transfer plans.
Over the last 10 days Brendan Rodgers has been emphasising the need to bring in quality and experience next month with a record of one point from five Champions League matches hanging over his return to the club.
What went on in terns of recruitment during the summer is something of a mystery with Rodgers returning to the club and approving deals that the club already had in the pipeline.
At Friday’s media conference the hoops boss claimed that he wanted to bring in four quality signings during the summer but at a real push only Luis Palma would get close to that description- none of the other six arrivals have made much of an impact.
Boyd and Sutton often resemble Tom and Jerry as they take opposite opinions on almost everything with the Daily Record catching up with today’s late morning confrontation.
“We can’t get past it, this season’s Champions League campaign has been really feeble, really disappointing”

I know it’s easy to say Celtic will get to January but they are not going to have European football. Why would the Celtic board (spend) … I mean, everybody tells me they are the best team in Scotland by a country mile. Why would you want to go and spend an absolute fortune in January to go and win the league again?
Looking at Celtic, it’s as if they have enough to do what they need to do in Scotland and they’ll bank the rest of the money. They don’t need go and spend an absolute fortune. Do Celtic just do enough to get past in Scotland. We keep hearing Celtic have got to invest to compete in Europe but we don’t see it.
At 5 minutes Mark Wilson explained to Boyd that clubs sign players in January to bed them in for the following season.

You didn’t half waffle some nonsense there. Why would Celtic want to build in January? That’s a rally strange comment, why would Celtic want to get better? Brendan Rodgers is basically saying this squad isn’t good enough.
On Wednesday Sky will cover the action from Tynecastle where second placed Philippe Clement takes his side to take on Hearts who are on a four match winning run in the SPFL.
Hearts to roll over again?
You’d definitely have thought so under that slavering fanboy Neilson but Naismith despite his many other faults gave them a game back in October and an “honest mistake” was required to give them a late Tavpen equaliser before succumbing in stoppage time.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they drop more points there in midweek. It’s a stick-on that they’ll win the league cup final, but a midwinter trip to Tynecastle under the lights with only a few hundred of their own fans there is another proposition. That said, I’m more concerned with our game against Hibs, as we got bugger all change out of them last time, and for the first 45 minutes today we were still pretty poor.
We smell your fear Mr Boyd – Boyed you are certainly not !
And the point is: the boy Lawwell should be confirming the quality player[s]
to sign in January NOW – if he hasn’t already done so with BR.
As with Ange, the player[s] should be arriving at the beginning of January,
and not being signed at 11.45PM on the last day of the transfer window.
I’m away to get an emergency psychiatric assessment having found some sense in Boyd’s ramblings… That canny be right?! Just hope the board buy the players we so obviously need (& so obviously needed BEFORE the seasons start). I don’t necessarily think we need to spend stupid money to get success (see O’Riley, Hatate, Maeda, Johnston…) but Lawwell Jr has to get the scouting spot on. A bit more physicality in the team would be good.
sorry to be a pessimist but I just don’t think the board will change their transfer policy, I believe they will let Brendan and the fans down again.
They bought Rodgers in so they wouldn’t have to spend. They know we are his last chance at redemption and will do what he is told until a struggling EPL team knock on his door.
