Brendan Rodgers has ruled out the prospect of selling Matt O’Riley to Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window.
Late on Wednesday morning Sky Sports News broke the news of a bid being made for the midfielder by the Spanish side.
Celtic’s business model is dependent on selling players such as Jota, Odsonne Edouard and Kris Ajer on to the richer leagues but in this case it seems like a very active SPFL title race has put football interests before the balance sheet.

While those comments left little room for manoeuvre the level of interest in O’Riley suggests that Celtic will have to do business in the summer.
Although the midfielder signed a contract extension in the September the reality is that Atletico could be offering three or four times his current salary as well as the attractions of one of Europe’s top leagues.
With Nicolas Kuhn the only January signing so far the last thing that Rodgers wants to do is see his squad weakened in the final week of the transfer window.
Be heralded as a new signing
and then the gutter press won’t stop chipping away at it for the rest of the season
as soon he has a bad game ‘ O ‘ Riley unhappy he didn’t get move ‘ etc
You know the drill
Maybe it’s all just sponsored ‘noise’ to deflect from the PLC’s incompetence in the transfer market, the running of our football club and anything else they touch, excepting money of course which they love to hoard. Fukkin imposters.
Any idea which player(s) were available that wanted to come too us and that we needed that we screwed up getting
Editor: Probably in the four positions that Rodgers mentioned after losing to Lazio. Two months later and Mini has came up with one arrival.
Daniel D, in answer to your preposterous, phony, Board-backing question: How long have you got to read a genuine answer? And I’ll include past incompetency……I almost feel sorry for you….almost.
Ach away an’ scratch yer John McGinn, FFS!
Sounds about right.
That’s exactly what it is TicToc,covering the sheer incompetence of him and his son,and desmond who sits in Ireland and doesn’t give a toss about Celtic.
If you want to reach the so called heights you aim to reach ,you dont sell your best players at any time.
Now starting to believe you are full of sht and just towing the lawwell line. If you dont get in what is required then I guess your time is up.
