Brendan Rodgers doesn’t appear to be on the brink of adding to his Celtic squad.

During the summer the arrivals came think and fast with seven new arrivals, Tomoki Iwata’s loan upgraded to a permanent move complimented by loan deals to bring in Nat Phillips and Paulo Bernardo.

So far this month only Nicolas Kuhn has been added, a strange signing since three wingers had been added during the summer.

After losing to Lazio in the Champions League Rodgers stated that his initial assessment of the squad he inherited was that four quality additions were required to realise his ambitions.

Under Ange Postecoglou Celtic fans became accustomed to transfer business being dealt with in advance of the January window opening but it looks like those days are over as Rodgers assesses the recruitment of Mark Lawwell.

Any closer to incoming transfers?

Not at this moment but there’s work going on behind the scenes. Of course there is, but it’s not easy when you’re trying to get players in. I’ve talked about quality before and always will because that’s the nature of what I want to build here. We’ve got a lot of quality players in our squad that are improving and developing and I want to add to that.

When you’re trying to get quality and add, it’s never easy because other clubs don’t want to lose quality players. But it’s something that’s continually being worked on and we’re hopeful before the window shuts we’ll be able to do that.

After Saturday’s match against Ross County there is likely to be a frenzy of speculation over who could be arriving at Celtic.

At midnight on Thursday, February 1 the window will close, two days later Celtic are in action away to Aberdeen quickly followed by a trip to face Hibs at Easter Road.

We can’t sign anyone as we won’t pay the money. Prepare for late loans that no other club wanted, its the lawwell way.

  • Captain Swing says:

He’ll be away on his toes at this rate. While there is a section of the fanbase who would be happy with that – not to mention some within the club – they should be careful what they wish for, in case they get it.

  • Bob (original) says:

So, per that clip above BR confirmed that he needed 4 quality players in the summer.

It’s now end of January and we still need those 4 players.

[Kuhn unplayed / unknown if quality yet.]

It now looks like the soonest he will get 4 quality players is this summer.

One whole year for the Head of Recruitment to deliver the manager’s

    player needs?

    That is unacceptable.

Either the boy Lawwell should be punted,

    or,

BR should just walk at the end of the season?

  • Stevie says:

Taking the piss yet again. It’s over to you Celtic supporters to do something about it. You’ve let it happen on past occasions and are taken for granted. ..?

  • Gordon Raeburn says:

I tend not to believe a word that comes from Rodgers’ mouth. He has lied and flipflopped since the summer. The board have also hung him out to dry. I really hope to hear “”Sack the board” and ” Lawwell, Lawwell get Tae f… at the weekend. They need to know how much we despise them.
