Celtic are reported to have secured a work permit to complete the signing of Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna.

Post Brexit regulations mean that paperwork has to be completed for a German coming to work in Scotland, although approval is almost a formality the report in The Sun suggests that interest in the winger is genuine.

Celtic fans have become frustrated that one third of the transfer window has passed without any additions to the squad but it does seem that the wheels are in motion to add Kuhn to Brendan Rodgers’ squad as The Sun reports:

CELTIC stepped up their pursuit of Nicolas Kuhn as they landed a work permit for the German winger.

SunSport revealed on January 2 the £2.5million-rated Rapid Vienna star was top of Brendan Rodgers’ wish-list in the January transfer window.

The clubs are still negotiating the final details of the move, but he has cleared a crucial red-tape hurdle.

Rodgers is keen to bolster his attacking options and ex-Ajax and Bayern Munich prospect Kuhn is his top target.

Rapid paid £500,000 for him 18 months ago and have demanded at least four times that sum.

Kuhn, who can also play as a striker, started his career as a kid at RB Leipzig before moving to Ajax and then Bayern.

The Germany under-20 cap joined Rapid in 2022 and has impressed in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Kuhn has three goals and seven assists in 22 appearances for Rapid this season and has emerged as a key man.

Signing another winger wasn’t expected to be a priority when the transfer window opened but the updates about Kuhn do confirm that Celtic are looking to strengthen their squad this month.

Next Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie at home to Buckie Thistle is the perfect opportunity to introduce new signings, getting the Kuhn deal completed over the weekend would allow the German youth internationalist a full week to train with his team-mates ahead of his debut.

    No: don’t think so.

Is this just PR spin / BS – direct from a Lawwell?!

BR has been calling out for ‘quality’ players, not a player rejected by 3 top teams,

and has only played 18 months / 51 games in a first team – at Rapid Vienna.

I’m calling this one out as a typical, underwhelming, PL ‘Willo Flood’-type signing.

Only a couple of weeks left to bring in experienced signings,

who will make an immediate impact on the first team…

Bob you’re spot on here, this has got liewells smell all over it ,this a project like Marian shved, if this guy is so good how come no one else is chasing him,I don’t think Rodgers has any say in what’s happening with transfers,I can’t believe he came back and is now working under the same regime which made him quit first time round,I think Desmond fed him some bullshit about being in charge and Rodgers swallowed it , besides he’s on a good earner so why would he rock the boat, this has got liewells penny pinching, project written all over it.
