McGowan reveals £2m Celtic transfer deal

Celtic are reported to have concluded a deal to sell David Turnbull to Cardiff City for £2m.

That fee is being reported by Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail, whatever the add-ons it does seem a generous deal for someone that will be out of contact at the end of the season.

Turnbull has scored seven times this season in the SPFL but it seems that bringing in a fee is a priority for Celtic rather than having the Scotland midfielder around for the remainder of this season.

Writing in the Daily Mail, McGowan reports:

CELTIC are poised to sell midfielder David Turnbull to Cardiff City in a deal worth £2million.

The Scottish champions are tying up a loan deal for Norwich City striker Adam Idah and still hope to add a left-back before Thursday’s 11.30pm deadline.

Despite fellow midfielder Reo Hatate limping out of Japan’s 3-1 win over Indonesia in the Asian Cup, however, Turnbull is awaiting the green light to travel to Cardiff to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

The Championship club made their move yesterday, with the two clubs now close to agreement on a package worth £2m when add-ons are taken into consideration.

On the final day of the Transfer Window Turnbull and his agent will hold the aces if they make the journey to the Welsh capital.

As a free agent in a couple of months time the midfielder will have longer to review his situation and be able to collect a far bigger signing on fee.

Motherwell look like missing out on a sell on clause for any profit made by Celtic but at the start of the Lockdown Season they did pick up their record transfer fee, a year after a deal had fallen through following a medical.

A good financial deal is £2 million if it goes through…

Just s shame half the midfield are made of margarine by the looks of it –

As always with the grey men – all about the money and to fcuk with the team !

  • John A says:

I honestly hope this falls through, not cuz i rate him as I don’t. The reason being to stick it up money grabbing lawwells ass. Take take take and give nothing to the 1st team. I absolutely detest the lawwells and they are playing poker with this season. Wish they would f@#£ off

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

And they ain’t very good at poker John – Well Certainly not Daddy anyway…

And especially if Hibernian and Rod Petrie are his opponents !

As clearly stated by James Forretst on Celtic blog. McGowan is no friend of Celtic. Clachnacuddin., As you stated on Celtic blog ignore him. Why not do it now. He should not be named or quoted on any Celtic site.

Editor: As an ex Celtic View reporter in the mainstream McGowan will never ever ever criticise Peter Lawwell, he goes out of his way to explain and justify every mistake from ‘big Peter’.

You would be forgiven for thinking that someone with a background as an accountant was calling the shots……

  • Kevin Dunne says:

To get £2m +,add on,s for Turnbull is a great deal considering he would have walked for nothing in summer , Turnbull could be a great player but tended to be out of games for a lot of the time and was pretty lethargic in his appearance. But great striker of the ball , all the very best of luck to him , does not suit that horrible strip though at Cardiff

Editor: There is not a chance the deal was £2m plus add ons. At a push if Cardiff get promoted to the EPL it might reach that, check the fees paid by Championship clubs, be lucky if there was a £500,000 down payment to go in the bank account.
