Things are simmering- Chris Sutton on Celtic disconnect

Within the space of one tweet Chris Sutton has summarised the issues simmering barely below the surface at Celtic.

Sitting at the top of the table with two wins out of two against your only significant rival in most situations would be a source of satisfaction in most circumstances.

After 90 plus laboured minutes scraping home against a side that lost 3-0 at home to Partick Thistle last week there was only anger and frustration around Celtic Park following the 1-0 victory over Ross County.

At the match, watching on Celtic TV or following the post match reaction on social media the reaction was almost universal, unusually after the match Brendan Rodgers suggested that the moaning and complaints have almost been constant since he returned to Celtic.

Next up for Celtic is a trip to Aberdeen on Saturday with Sutton ringside for the Pittodrie clash.

The Dons have plenty of troubles of their own with fans calling for the sacking of Barry Robson after yesterday’s defeat away to Hearts left them 19 points behind the Edinburgh side who are in third place in the Premiership table.

Lawwell is the problem as everyone knows. I blame him for our champions league exit.

Had he strengthened our weakest positions in the summer, we could have won our 3 home matches and qualified. Why should fans bother to invest in the club if the board refuse to invest in the team. I’m done.

I don’t buy club merchandise so he can pay himself a bigger bonus, fuck that.

    • Tony B says:

I agree with everything you’ve just said. Lawwell is running the club for his own benefit and doesn’t give a fuck for the supporters.

While he is there, the club will never get a penny from me.

Feels like we’re only a loss / draw away from a crisis!

Yes, we are top of the league, despite not playing well.

We will probably drop more points in the SPL this season,

but will the ref / VAR assisted sevco drop points…?

One of the first things BR said when he came to Celtic was; he “virtually” watched every game Celtic played since he left. He must have been watching Rea and Robson’s useless, mindless simulations, because he learned nothing about Angeball.

Some of BR’s credibility was lost with me, when he said Marco Tilio was finding it hard to adjust to the demands of Scottish football. That was after Marco only was given one run in a Celtic B game.

Marco is one of the cleanest and most accurate strikers of the football that Celtic will never see.

The latest was saying how Nicholas Kuhn will fit into the team. He can play wide and inside.

He has enough wingers that can do what the team needs at the time..

Celtic will still win the Premiership.

Media stirring it Rodgers says if right player comes he will buy our squad is been stretch at the moment and the cover isn’t as good as we thought we have four of our squad in Asia a few injured left back is a problem height wise and defence Ross county planned park the bus and break which nearly worked but Celtic should have been out of sight missing twice from spot took the edge out of the game palma tried to hard after that abda looked ring rusty our passing just wasn’t there yes pitch is poor for our way of playing we need to change it up a bit next two games away from home and not on plastic pitch players and supporters getting a bit edgie Hart looks nervous every corner or cross ball his distribution is wayward if we get a few wins then confidence returns media it’s all about negatively our main challenger won 1-0 and didn’t play well but media give them a ride.Rodgers and Celtic aren’t going to buy someone to sit on bench I wonder if gaikamakous is available milovisci good but not 5miilion good aberdeen don’t come up against teams parking the bus we take our chances yesterday there would be no talk of transfers we got three points but we were the attacking side even 1 up we still attacked cause our supporters won’t have it any other way that’s why we gave 60,000 season books and 20,000 on waiting list and park the bus teams have 5,000 or less entertainment

Media have got us in a crisis after a poor game but won

That mob were utter sh*t yesterday and all you hear about is the weather getting the blame

i think lawwell wants rid of brendan. he did it before and he is at it again. how to get rid of the manager? don’t back him. desmond white wrote the playbook on this.

  • BlackSox says:

Hmmm – no problems with recruitment under Ange yet things seem different under BR?
One, notable, common denominater is that PL was not Chairman of the Board when Ange was there, yet there he is, back in charge with BR again & we all know that he & BR were at loggerheads last time around because of his arrogant, interfering & controlling nature – which I believe played a significant part in BR jumping ship the way he did.
BR saying that he needed 4 ‘quality’ players has thrown down the gauntlet at PL & the Board so it will be interesting to see the outcome.
Hopefully, we as fans don’t have to suffer the pain of losing the league over any internal disputes which stupidly overshadow what’s best for the club.

    • SFATHENADIROFCHIFTINESS says:

Lawwell is only interested in what’s best for the Lawwell Dynasty.

Celtic is his Personal Pension Pot.

He hasn’t had his fill yet.

    • Stephen says:

The board thought they could walk it with the squad they had,too cute with the buy cheap sell profit…the squad at Lennoxtown is too big with players never going to get near ,1st team….where are the break throughs ?….

Literally killing players careers who were 1st team picks in other leagues.BR either had assurances when the board head hunted him or they have been broken again. Poor football this season says a lot about the League…They are top !h

  • Bhoy4life says:

Big Pete protecting his bonus yet again….

  • Eldraco says:

You can now understand why the board would not let kennedy follow Ange because when this all goes tits up they know that kennedy can at least change back to Ange ball which he was a devotee of.

Our loanee kwon thrives at st mirren playing in a 2 man mid free range like Ange ball but cant pull a trick at turdball. Its not a coincidence.

  • TicToc says:

Project Sydney and it’ll all be fine, Aye?
We know the problem, we know the solution, yet apathy persists.
Tory baztards in power like Desmond, Lawwell and co., just love our apathy.

  • Johnny Farrell says:

While the board have, not for the first time, failed to enthusiastically back a manager, the said manager has shown his abiding aptitude for engaging smoke and mirrors in deflecting the boos at full time.

On the few occasions where the players quite clearly played their own game and defied the Rodgers tippy tippy philosophy by sctually attacking defences, they won by streets and cricket scores. When they play to BR’s possession based rules, they pass the ball back and forward, invariably involving Joe Hart, and barely emerge victorious by the skin of their teeth, or lose. Something has to change. Big style.

If the board will not support Rodgers, they should get rid and bring in a manager they can trust. And while they are at it, they should get rid of the resident yes men in the coaching and business teams, because they are not finding any answers whatsoever to the low block that most teams employ against us, or in attracting the kind of talent needed to kick on in Europe. Unfortunately, they are all far too satisfied to be first or second in the domestic league.

It is time to clear out the back rooms and management in both the commercial and football sides of the club in favour of some risk takers, willing to put their money where their mouths are, because it won’t take long for the 60000 home crowds to disappear. Especially if they lose the title to the pretenders because of a lack of will to do the job properly.
