Five days into 2024 and Phil Goodlad has set an exceptional benchmark as he drooled over the incredible stare and mannerisms of Philippe Clement.

With Tom English, Kenny Macintyre, Jane Lewis, Alisdair Lamont and a host of others cheerleading over all things Ibrox Goodlad faces a tough task to get promotion from the graveyard shift of reading out sports bulletins of Good Morning Scotland.

A year ago BBC Scotland were drooling over Micky Beale, getting granted an exclusive one-to-one interview with the Brains Behind Gerrard that was trailed but never broadcast.

Even losing to Celtic and an outburst of post-match paranoia hasn’t dulled the man-love for the Belgian in brogues and blazer with Goodlad unable to apply the handbrake to his admiration of another bang average Phil.

Reporting on their own in-house podcast BBC Scotland reports:

My person of the season, and he’s only been in the game about 20 games, is actually Philippe Clement,” Goodlad said on the Scottish Football Podcast.

We all remember Rangers managers in the past who have that ‘Rangers stare’ about them. You know, Walter Smith was the epitome of it. If you asked him a wrong question, if something went wrong, it didn’t take a 60 second explanation in a post-match press conference. You just got a stare.

Why use a sentence when a stare would do? I think Clement has that. I’ve been really struck by the change in feeling around Ibrox and feeling being that it’s a club that believes again, it believes that they can win the title.

Although given what happened last weekend when the old firm met, that might have been slightly dented. But Clement looks to me the real deal and that’s no disrespect to Michael Beale in the past.

Michael Beale was a rookie manager who had a really good start, but maybe when push came to shove didn’t have that experience, that sort of zeal that’s required. I think Clement does have that and I think it’s shown in the results apart from Parkhead last weekend.”

Perhaps for some fun Goodlad could arrange stare off between his favourite manager and the scary Scouser?

Had the scary Belgie won against Celtic Goodlad’s tribute might have rivalled the classic discussion between Chick Young and James Traynor in 2011, pre administration.

Goodlad and his colleagues at the state broadcaster are entirely dependent on the income from the TV (BBC) licence fee.

Last week result(slightly dented) their chances of tiile!!!!! Personally I think it was more of a car crash,, after the the final whistle,,, the behaviour of that so called institution in its handling of said result was absolutely apauling and as for bbc,, radio,, papers and all the deranged loons at their disposal was allowed to say and print all the bile they wanted with no repercussions at all, be it all on their heads if it does go tits up,,,

Drooling fanboy p1$h. And he hasn’t shown himself worthy of it either… I’d compare and contrast the reaction of Poirot last Saturday to that of Ange when his team lost on his first trip to iBrox.

He was disappointed but calm and measured and resolved to get it right. In cricket, after a bad test series result the expression they use is “back to the nets”, meaning to go away and practice until you are better. That simple.

Poirot could take a leaf out of the straightforward approach of the seasoned Australian instead of fuelling the insanity around the tribute act masquerading as Rangers.

      * Meant to say

Entire Scottish sports media still gushing over Clement as if he came to our place and won

      • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Wouldn’t know Harold as I don’t pay or watch or read any of them…

However I do sometimes listen to Clyde Superscoreboard for some Schadenfreude after we beat Sevco –

On Wednesday all it seemed to be was about Poor Sevco and how they were done outta a penalty…

So I just switched off and went back to music –

They even deprived me of ma Schadenfreude week on Clyde Superscoreboard…

If it wasn’t reported to me on here and The Celtic Blog What was going on out there then I’d simply never know !

His beak is so far up Clement ‘s erchie (as my granny used to say ) ,Goodlad can tell what big Phil had for Christmas day pudding ….. By the way isn’t Goodlad a Scottish Rugby scoop at the BBC ? They are all at the sycophantic drooling aren’t they ?

Editor: From Shetland, token interest in golf and rugger but knows that the only way to the top is to Follow Follow Macintyre, Lewis, Lamont and the biggest cheerleader of all, Succulent Tam English.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Jeez oh – What sick bag material is that lot of shite – That Guy is sick in the head !

My only surprise is that he gave ‘The (late) man with no surname’ – “Walter” an actual surname !

  • Teapot heid says:

I actually know Mr Goodlad and he’s sound. He has to watch what he says because of who he works for and their “strained” relationship with der buns.

Not a bluenose by any means but I shall dig him up for this fanboy pish. But then it’s a puff-piece for the “the Rangers” section so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised.
