At 6pm Alistair Johnston was lining up with his team-mates for a crucial SPFL clash away to Hibs.

Two hours later as Adam Idah was slotting away the decisive goal from the penalty spot the defender was in a hospital gown sharing his joy at the result from Easter Road.

Less than five minutes into the match Johnston’s participation was over as a brutal challenge from Nectarios Triantis left him out cold, lying flat on the pitch face down as referee Nick Walsh pointed to the penalty spot.

Tony Ralston was on the pitch as the penalty was scored, unfortunately for Johnston he was soon on route to an Edinburgh hospital to get his face checked as fans speculated about the extent of his injury.

There was no word on the extent of the injury but it would be fair to assume that Johnston won’t be involved in Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie away to St Mirren.

Apart from the result and discovering a penalty taker there was very little for Celtic to take from tonight’s match with Johnston joining Greg Taylor, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate in the treatment room.
