Ahead of today’s Scottish Cup tie at St Mirren Brendan Rodgers has stated that a trophyless season is unthinkable for Celtic.

After losing out in their first League Cup tie away to Kilmarnock in August Rodgers’ trophy options have been narrowed down.

Losing eight points in the SPFL since the start of December has opened up the title race with the real prospect of Celtic going into their next match in second place and trailing by three points.

All of those circumstances plus underwhelming recent form piles the pressure on today’s match against a St Mirren side that has won convincingly against Hibs and Dundee in their last outings.

Asked if a trophy-less season was unthinkable Rodgers told the Daily Record:

Oh aye. And not just because of what happened before – but because of my own mindset now in being here again.

That’s (a trophy-less season) not what the supporters demand and it’s not what the club demands. It’s certainly not what I demand. No, I’m here to win. And by the time I do leave here, I hope I’ve won a lot.

Without Cameron Carter-Vickers, Greg Taylor and Reo Hatate Celtic are without three of the key players from last season’s treble success.

Today’s match will be played to a finish with extra-time and penalties if necessary with the quarter-final draw taking place soon after the conclusion.
