Soon after Brendan Rodgers completed his Friday media conference Celtic announced their Interim Results to 31st December 2023.

Funds in the bank remained at a healthy £67.3m despite committing funds for capital expenditure on Lennoxtown, Barrowfield and Celtic Park.

At the end of June Celtic had £72m in the bank with supporters getting frustrated at the stockpiling of funds while the team fails to make any impact in Europe and is now struggling domestically.

Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly spoken about bringing in quality but none of the 12 players brought to the club this season, three on loan, have improved on the players already there or made a telling impact on matches.

Aware of the criticism, in the report from the London Stock Exchange, chairman Peter Lawwell explained:

The Board shares the frustrations of the supporters regarding the less than anticipated activity in the recent transfer window.

Since the opening of the transfer window in June 2023, and up to the end of the winter transfer window which closed on 1st February 2024, we have committed £23.9m in player investment. Within this we renewed and extended the contracts of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liel Abada, Matt O’Riley, Anthony Ralston and Reo Hatate.

The Board’s commitment is to strengthen and improve the playing squad in every transfer window and although resources were available, we were unable to further add to the squad due to the unavailability of identified targets.

This was disappointing to us all, and never the intention. The January transfer window is notoriously difficult as clubs are very reluctant to let their best players go at such a crucial time of the season just as we are. Indeed, we resisted strong interest in our players from other clubs.

Despite sharing the transfer frustrations of the supporters it appears that no changes are being made to the club’s Recruitment Department which is led by Lawwell’s son Mark.

A big transition is expected in the summer, a goalkeeper is definitely required with Joe Hart announcing his retirement while there is expected to be renewed interest in Matt O’Riley after Atletico Madrid had an offer rejected last month.

You can tell when Lawwell Snr is lying, his lips move

  • John McNealis says:

His huge pay packet as he rips the p out of us will soothe his disappointment, sack the board

    • Jas says:

IMO Lawwell has been behind the rumours that we read before every window courtesy of his friends in the media.
Twice a year, the month before each window, there are names of many players some known some not so on the back pages of all the rags who publish anything Lawwell wants reported.
Every window, bar none when Lawwell’s been operating, not a one of those “star” names and their agents confess that Celtic have never enquired, ie the rumours have come from that cnut.

  • Christopher Chambers says:

What an absolute load of bull shit!!
It’s the board and Lawwells fault for not letting any money be spent.
Maybe we should just go in and drag him & the board out the building and stone them on the Celtic way.

    • Terence Nova says:

Same old blah blah blah and bullshit…But the lack of spend is not as bad …as what we spent it on. As long as Lawwell Junior is involved in bringing players in…we will continue to buy dross…Get him tae FECK….

    • FSTB says:

What was his bull excrement excuse for the summer farce ,
      In other words
Junior is going nowhere, a bit like the club at the moment

    • TicToc says:

Christopher, I’d take them on a wee sight-seeing tour of the upper Clyde, into town then across the Kingston Bridge. From here along to Govan to give them a last glimpse of that shit-hole that they so desire to be joined to at the hip, so to speak, and henceforth to their final land-based destination, half way across the Erskine Bridge……. then whee-ee-ee-ee, SPLASH! Bye-ee, won’t be missed!
But, of course, being stoned on the Celtic Way would fit the bill. (Just be careful how you say that though as it’s maybe open to misinterpretation!) 🙂

  • Stesano says:

Lawell just go!! You know fine well your not wanted at our! Club yes it’s ours! Your presence has created this bs! Go now!!

  • KC67 says:

Utter bullshit. Get these incompetents emptied.

Absolute disaster of a year masterminded by both Lawwells.

  • Justshatered says:

“Difficult to get players in January” !!
Well what was the excuse in the summer then.

Invested £23.9M in players. Yeeha, only one can regularly get a game and all of that spend was financed by the sale of Jota.

Years ago Liverpool announced a huge hike in season ticket prices and the stadium was soon rocking to:
    Enough is enough.
    Enough is enough.
You greedy barstewards enough is enough.

We need to adopt this song to drive home our dissatisfaction.

  • Sid says:

I’m astounded by the arrogance and the insult to the Celtic fans intelligence. These people are so out of touch and unaware of their own failings that they are now writing their death sentences and highlighting why their failing yet being totally oblivious to the cause of their failures.

When you have the belief that 90% of your customers are entitled and you know better then you have a serious issue, you are ignoring your failures, projecting the problem elsewhere and that mindset will never solve any issues, only heighten them and compound them.

To isolate one window, then blame others is the ultimate insult to intelligence and this only reinforces how incompetent these people are and how in only 4 transfer windows we can deteriorate so rapidly.

The January hard time to buy excuse is probably the biggest insult of all. It only highlights even more how shambolic the summer recruitment was because you know filling the position will be much harder, must change how you operate the summer before. The left back is a classic example, everyone knew it was a must sort problem in the summer, they then compound the original error by still not filling the position which then costs us points which we knew they would a year beforehand.

They also are so out of touch with their responsibilities that they think they can bring in substandard replacements and shift that responsibility onto the manager.

They think that replacing Giakoumakis with Oh is job done as they play in the same position and wonder why we unravel so fast, they then transfer the blame on the entitled fans and manager who they expect the same results with vastly reduced quality. If Giakoumakis plays every week and contributing and Oh doesn’t then you haven’t replaced the outgoing player which then should force you to buy again. Our board doesn’t, it just accepts the decline.

Do that over several positions, each one then magnifying the others and suddenly in 2 seasons you’re trophy less, with massive decline, no saleable assets and a massive payoff bill. These people must be removed, their incompetence is staggering.

    • KC67 says:

The fat bullshitter has to be stopped and punted.

How about a vote of no confidence in the chairman petition organised in the stadium on match day. Surely to eff you could get at least 30,000 signatures as a start. Give the useless bastard some heat.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

    Quite Simply….

    DIRTY LYING BASTARDS THEN…

    DIRTY LYING BASTARDS NOW…

    DIRTY LYING BASTARDS FOREVER…

Thats you know who for you !

  • The Joker says:

What a load of shite,a stuntman for Dave King with his lies,no wonder they name him LIEWELL.

  • the maister says:

Pish. An amateur could have done better!
Lawwell is an accountant, a bean counter. And it shows!
He runs the club. So, when he fails, the barsteward that he is, claims the ffrustrations of the fans are his frustrations. Don’t hurt me please!
But the failings are his own!
Lawwell is an wannabe capitalist. He’s a crawler. He’ll take the money and when things are going well, fine. But when things are not so good, he’ll claim that he is one of us, it’s not his fault.
    It doesn’t wash!
You run the Club Lawwell. We’ve been here before. The job is too big for you, but you will take the money and the Club can go to pot!
Lawwell out or given a desk job, which he is capable of and a Football Department at Celtic plc in!

  • the maister says:

You’re a Loser Lawell. So, GTF!

  • Mick Riley says:

So reading between the lines of what the chairman said,if Brendan wants to go for any player(s) he fancied in the January window he can go and get them.Pick any player he fancies and tell the board he didn’t put a bud in because clubs don’t want to sell their best players in the January transfer window.

  • Stevie says:

The time was summer not January. That’s how we know your full of it.

  • Kevin Dunne says:

Don,t want to hear stories or ready made BS get the manager backed and spend the damm money we need to spend ,not projects that might make money, players that WILL IMPROVE the team as a whole
