Roger Mitchell has tweeted that two different sources have told him that Dermot Desmond is planning a total clear out of the Celtic board.

The former SPL Chief Executive was responding to the Daily Record’s coverage of Celtic’s Interim Results which revealed an end of year bank balance of £67.3m despite investing in Lennoxtown, Barrowfield and Celtic Park.

While Celtic are out the park in terms of finances and generating profits they have dropped 10 points in the SPFL Premiership since the start of December and could kick off at Motherwell on Sunday five points adrift in second place.

The incredible financial figures at a time when the team on the park is toiling to put together a decent winning run or play entertaining football is creating anger among fans with the tone of Peter Lawwell’s message with the accounts very defensive.

Claiming that the Board of Directors shares the frustrations of fans over the January Transfer Window is a big confession which leads to the question of why that situation has occurred.

Who is mainly to blame for Celtic's disastrous season?

Chairman- The decline started with his appointment

Manager- Not the same guy, weak and more powerless

Recruitment- you can't get over four disastrous transfer windows

DD- Dermot Desmond is Celtic’s largest individual shareholder but as he isn’t on the Board he really shouldn’t have a major role in the day to day running of the club.

The reality however is that most big decisions require the approval of the Irish businessman who was credited with getting the wheels moving to bring Brendan Rodgers back as manager last summer.

A major clear out of the board would come as a shock, Lawwell was CEO for 17 years before a brief break and return as Chairman. Tom Allison and Brian Wilson have over 40 years combined in the boardroom.

Michael Nicholson is well into his third year as CEO, prior to that appointment he had been Company Secretary since 2013, moving to Director of Legal and Football Affairs in December 2019.

Since becoming CEO Nicholson has never given any media interviews, his only communications are all related to the Annual General Meeting.

Will he make the decision between rounds of golf at Pebble Beach in Monterey County and the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades …any time soon .We would not want to interfere with his backswing now ..would we? Forrrre !

    Of course.

The absent DD is now, magically, aligned with the supporters.

A ‘future’ mass clear out behind the scenes at Parkhead is needed.

…now, just step up and renew your Season Tickets!

    Absolute bollox.

    🙁

I’d be delighted if he includes himself in the clear out…He is a total waste of space…Surely there’s a Celtic lover ( s ) out there who could make this happen ?…Sadly my Pension would just fall short of the requirement…Seriously ‘though….DD OUT NOW.

I find it hard to believe that any ‘source’ actually knows what Desmond is likely to do next, these fly men don’t operate like that, they say little and strike fast.

Even if true, we’ve a mountain to climb to beat the new huns and their biggest fans at the Lanarkshire Referees Association to the title and make no mistake, the new huns just need that Euro money from CL qualification this season and they’ll flourish. So too little too late, even if true, IMHO. In golfing parlance it’s like being ahead on the 18th tee and going out of bounds and losing the match. Then that wee bastard in your head tells you “I fukkin told you not to use the driver.”

Or, alternatively, for Desmond (and Lawwell) “For the good of the game (and our ever-inflating bank balance) I think we’ve finally rescued the O** F*** and will make the ultimate fortune when we get our long-craved entry into the EPL.” I just can’t see this end well just now!!!!
