Thirteen months after being appointed as Chairman there is little doubting the feelings of Celtic supporters to Peter Lawwell.

Some might say that it is almost as if he has never been away after stepping down as CEO at the end of June 2021.

After a brief spell with Dom McKay securing the transfers of Kyogo Furuhashi, Liel Abada, Josip Juranovic, Carl Starfelt, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Joe Hart, Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers the former rugby chief stepped aside to be replaced by sports lawyer Michael Nicholson. Brought to Celtic by Lawwell in 2013.

There was still one stunning transfer window to come, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley were signed in January 2022 but later that year Mark Lawwell was recruited from his job as Information and Content Manager of the City Football Group website to lead Celtic transfer activity. Since then recruitment has nosedived.

During Mark Lawwell’s first window he brought in Alexandro Bernabei, Ben Siegrist, and Sead Haksabanovic. Loan signings Moritz Jenz and Oliver Abildgaard were binned as soon as the January window opened.

When Brendan Rodgers returned in June he praised the brilliant recruitment work carried out by Mark, what followed was less than brilliant with Marco Tilio and Kwon Hyeok-kyu already ditched with only an injury to Carter-Vickers halting Gus Lagerbielke’s loan deal to Lecce.

After losing to Lazio at the end of November Rodgers claimed that he identified the need for four quality signings when he returned to the club. The expectation that this might be addressed in January was killed off when another winger, Nicolas Kuhn was signed halfway through the window.

There was no endorsement from Rodgers on the signing of Adam Idah. The fans are fully behind the player and the team, their feelings for the Chairman and his fellow directors are very, very different.

Feels like PL and the Board have crossed a line with this window?

Going to be VERY interesting to hear BR today.

He is normally quite careful with his words.

Will he try and ‘sit on the fence’,

or just bat any tricky questions away?

Can’t really see BR being critical of anything…

but would ‘love it, just love it’ if had a wee pop today!?

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

For once Bob (original) The Scottish Football Media could do their jobs and ask Brendan some awkward questions regarding this window…

I await with interest to see what our blogs report later on !

    • KC67 says:

I’m not one for using capital letters but in this case I’ll make an exception –

      DON’T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!

      • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Oh Trust me on this one KC67 – The Scottish Football Media do not to quote Fergus get ‘NOT ONE THIN DIME’ outta me, they never have and never will either…

I visit ma old maw and ma old auntie once a month and they ask me to get them a paper and I charge them every penny for the rags (they don’t have the internet in) –

Ma sister found out and went mental at me calling me a miserable bastard which I certainly am not (I’ve always been of the opinion ‘fcuk being the richest man in the graveyard’ – that’s actually ma uncle if the truth be told biput certainly not ma late Daddy or ma granny’s !

If it’s the board that you’re very valid point refers to then that ship (season ticket) sailed a decade ago but for different reasons to a botched couple of transfer windows…

I still like to show folks that I’m a Celtic fan if no longer a paying through the turnstile supporter so do get some merchandise to wear but if we lose this league that’s gone as well and I’m sure that I can design ma own style of T – Shirts and should be able to find an imitation of the kits out there somewhere –

And just like Celtic and Lawwell and Nicholson ma bank balance will be a helluva lot healthier as well !

  • Stevie says:

These Charlatans will continue to mismanage Celtic as long as the fans continue to plough their money into the club. When they come begging for season ticket money they fans need to stand firm and say no. Same when the new shirts come out. Dont renew ST, dont buy club merchandise. Sadly it wont happen and the circus will continue

  • Stewart says:

It seems everytime we have our foot on the ranjurs throat this board and certain past ones as well hold back from really putting more pressure on said foot to kill them off once and for all, this window could and should have produce a lot more than it’s done,it definitely got that feel of the covid season wafting about,,, hope I’m wrong

    • Paul Mac says:

Pistol Pete supposedly complained when they went bust that it meant that we lost 5 million a season … however he obviously didnt understand that lack of competition meant that we were more likely (if prepared – which wasnt the case) to get the 30 million bounty for entrance to the Champions League. But again the whole crux of this situation is wrong .. we have needed a separation of a football dept from the overall board.

That way if they allocate say 20 million budget and the football dept waste it on dross .. the likes of Lawell Nicholson etc are shielded. Lets face it I want a football analyst to check the stats of a future signing THEN a scout who understands the characteristics needed by the management to go and watch the player for 2-3 times and then compare the visual with the analytics.

There are thousands and thousands in our price range throughout the world .. it just needs some organisation.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Covid was a curse and very dangerous Stewart…

Just the exact same as this Celtic board are –

Sevco loved Covid – no rabid fans, rules bent for them etc…

And likewise – Sevco love this Celtic Board –

A look on Swallow Swallow tells you that much !

  • Zeddy says:

The £70million in the bank is down to us …..the fans.

Would Adidas sponsor Celtic without us ….WTF !!!!

I still suspect a City Group or similar buy out with current shareholders walking with the cash

  • John Copeland says:

Anytime a player gets interviewed about Celtic FC ,he/she always talk about our wonderful fans ,stadium and traditions especially on European nights . Why can’t we attract the names and players that fans would love to see at Celtic Park during the windows ? Is it because of the money , or the attitude of the board ,or the deficiencies of Scottish football , or the weather or something else ? If the reputation of the club is the benchmark for incoming players ,why for Christ sakes can’t we attract them ,with the greatest respect to the guys who have been signed .

  • Antony Ivatt says:

This is the reason for the cash in the bank for the rainy day. Peter can’t and won’t allow us to Bury sevco for good. 2012 proved that. The cash in the bank is for the up coming summer transfer window after we gift sevco a title. These bastards in charge have no feeling towards the fans. Time and again they’ve shafted us. They’ve done nothing of note since Fergus left.except cut the standard on the pitch and hang some curtains on the stadium. Oh,wait forgot about the disco lights at 4m. Couldn’t pay the money for mcginn stephen fletcher or Ivan toney when managers desperately wanted them. Fuck lawell
