Still in a really good position- Rodgers is defiant with Celtic’s lead under threat

Brendan Rodgers believes that Celtic are still in a very good position despite almost being on level terms in the race for the SPFL Premiership title.

Since the start of December Celtic have dropped eight points and although they won the Glasgow Derby by 10pm tonight they could be on level terms with their city rivals.

An underwhelming transfer window and a disjointed performance in the 1-1 draw at Aberdeen gave substance to the worst fears of supporters that the team has gone backwards with the SPFL title slipping away.

Sky Sports will cover tomorrow’s match away to Hibs, at a venue that Rodgers has never won at with all eyes on whether Celtic can return to winning ways and put in a strong team performance.

There are still so many games left. It is still a long way out, we’ve obviously dropped so many points. I think that, it’s not satisfying to drop the points but knowing that we haven’t been as consistent as we would have liked but we are still in a really, really good position.

Hopefully going forward, lots of remaining games, lots of points to play for. As always in any league the best team will win the league over 38 games.

Daizen Maeda was back training today after missing three matches due to Japan’s involvement in the Asian Cup but Cameron Carter-Vickers, Greg Taylor and Reo Hatate are all missing through injury.

Addressing the concerns of supporters Rodgers said:

It is probably one of the few clubs where you have won six games and drawn one out of seven but it feels more than that.

Context is important and perspective is something you always have to have here as a manager and that is certainly something that I have.

Supporters are entitled to make their opinion known and always will be especially with the demands at this football club.

All I can concentrate on is making sure the players are clear and have clarity when they go into the games.

I wouldn’t expect him to do anything other than come out fighting, but the million dollar question is will that be reflected in the players performance? Because there has been a conspicuous lack of “dig” in a lot of the games we have dropped points. The Hearts game in particular was an utter shambles. He must surely know that he will not get a further season to improve on “runner up” like he did at Liverpool….. runner up is last place.

      Yip – If you’re not fast, you’re last…

If you snooze, then you lose –

      Drag your feet, it’s defeat…

That’s been Fcukin Celtic since November unfortunately !
