Tin pot BBC reporter can’t cope with Celtic’s record trophy haul

BBC Scotland has tried to rank Scotland’s top 10 clubs in another waste of money from the licence payer.

Nick McPheat was given the task which would be designed to provide the BBC website with evergreen content that will generate traffic long after publication.

The author is one of the many background minions drawing a salary from the state broadcaster, recruited from the same process that unearthed Kenny Macintyre, Alasdair Lamont, Liam MacLeod then head hunted stars like Tom English and Jane Lewis after their careers in the commercial sector had bombed.

Judging by his Twitter account (following 838 with 418 followers after more than four years) McPheat claims to be a Motherwell fan, there are lots of wacky comments on Twitter/X with virtually no feedback or reaction.

A review of the history of Scottish football clubs with BBC Scotland clearly has to find ways around the administration followed by liquidation and death of Rangers in 2012, McPheat knows the drill as the state broadcaster avoids the truth at all costs.

Among the phrases that he calls in is:

Celtic and Rangers make up over 67% of the major trophies won by Scottish clubs, with the Ibrox side (118) still two ahead of their Glasgow rivals (116).

A blatant lie, Rangers trophy count ended at 115 with many of them earned through ineligible players.

After mentioning Aberdeen’s Cup Winners Cup triumph of 1983 McPheat tries to claim that the European Cup for league winners is somehow comparable to the now defunct Cup Winners Cup which was open to cup losers.

Two of the 10 won by Ferguson included a Cup Winners’ Cup and Uefa Super Cup – that’s one more European trophy than any other Scottish team as Rangers (1971-72 Cup Winners’ Cup) and Celtic (1966-67 European Cup) have one each.

Celtic fans will argue theirs holds the most prestige, given it’s the big one and they were the first British club to win it, but we’ll leave that to you to decide.

McPheat’s view is clear from that last comment.

Turning to top flight prestige McPheat really gets into his stride with:

Fans of Celtic and Aberdeen can use this one to their advantage, given both clubs have never suffered relegation, as can supporters of Motherwell, who haven’t dropped out of the top flight since 1985.

In that time, perceived bigger clubs, such as Hearts, Hibs, Dundee United and Dundee, have all suffered multiple relegations, while Rangers have also spent time in the lower leagues following all that business in 2012.

All that business begins with the letter l and ends in iquidation. It is a word than no one at BBC Scotland will go near, just ask Jim Spence about the consequences.

Finally building up to the biggy, showing the impact of a dozen years of personal pain, looking on at Celtic’s stream of success the Motherwell fan turns to tin-pottery with:

Celtic fans, your team isn’t immune from small-time behaviour either. Building up nine years of consecutive league titles, only to watch a historic 10-in-a-row bid fail in spectacular fashion is undoubtedly your club’s crowning tinpot moment.

McPheat and his colleagues are entirely funded by the BBC licence fee giving them a level of salary way above that paid in the commercial sector.

  • Captain Swing says:

Well-timed, given “his team” took a tin-pot tumble themselves last night, exiting the cup at the hands of the mighty ‘Ton…. what a stramash! That’s assuming he really is a Motherwell fan, if he works for the BBC he might be as much a Motherwell fan as Jim Traynor was an Airdrie fan and Chick Young was a St Mirren fan.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Well researched and highlighted – It just shows exactly what’s going on out there that folks like me would otherwise never know about…

His mask has slipped putting Celtic’s magnificent European achievement last in his paragraph –

A cripple murdered ‘Rangers’ trying and failing to emulate that very same achievement…

He’s well named as Nick Ma Feat given that he says that Sevco have the feat of Celtic’s record winning trophy haul in Scotland of 116 successes !
