It’s a little bit complex- new injury blow for Clement

Ross McCausland is the latest Ibrox injury concern with Michael O’Neill reporting that ‘it’s a little bit complex’ ahead of tomorrow’s international against Scotland.

The winger is in line to sweep the board for the Young Player of the Year awards but suffered an injury in the home defeat to Motherwell that forced him off after 35 minutes.

It seemed like McCausland panicked when confronted with a 50-50 challenge from Dan Casey and injured himself pulling out.

Philippe Clement went on a post-match rant about the challenge but played the young winger in the next match away to Benfica then three days later against Hibs in the Scottish Cup.

McCausland did miss out on the return leg against Benfica, explaining the winger’s absence from the match against Scotland O’Neill told The Sun:

I don’t think it’s particularly serious. It’s a little bit complex from my understanding from the medical team. He was optimistic, but he has played with pain since he had the initial challenge and the injury.

I spoke to Philippe Clement and they had him on the bench against Benfica, but I don’t think that realistically they intended to use him in that situation.

He has got a lot to play for between now and the end of the season. We are conscious of that. So we don’t want to put him in a situation where we are bringing him off the bench and he is uncomfortable in that way.

We just hope that he recovers quickly because the most important thing is that Ross is playing for Rangers and playing regularly because then we have got another player who is playing at a level where obviously we get a lot from that player playing on the international stage.

Ridvan Yilmaz is also returning from international duty with an injury, lasting just 27 minutes of Turkey’s 1-0 defeat away to Hungary.
