At Motherwell last week his sign off to Jane Lewis created days of headlines, debate and discussion.

After losing at Hearts today Brendan Rodgers put Celtic’s defeat firmly on John Beaton with unprecedented criticism of the VAR.

A red card for Yang Hun-jun after 15 minutes followed by a 42nd minute penalty to Hearts upset the Celtic boss, pushing him into detailed criticism of the match officials.

Both decisions were prompted by John Beaton on VAR duty, Don Robertson twice visited the monitor and opted to go with the instructions from his off-field colleague.

Rodgers was highly critical of Beaton when he spoke after the match to Sky Sports, that was also the focus of his interview with BBC Scotland:

The first incident with the sending off – there’s no force in that.

If you make a still [image], of course it gives you a different opinion but the reality was not that. The referee made a right decision of a yellow card.

That’s a clear example of what people say VAR isn’t. The game was refereed outside the field today. That means we get a sending off.

The second one is even worse. Tomoki gets a nudge, I don’t know where his arm is supposed to go. The ball drops on to his arm. If that’s the case, we should have had a penalty at Motherwell last week.

For John Beaton to say that is a penalty – wow. It’s really really poor officiating in a big game for us.

With such direct references to Beaton it seems inevitable that the SFA will hit Rodgers with a disrepute charge, something that he has avoided in two stints in charge of Celtic.

    Good.

If Clement / sevco can publicly criticise the refs – and even demand that

a named ref is not allowed to officiate at future sevco games again,

    WITHOUT any repercussions…

then BR should call a spade a spade.

If the idiots at Hampden TRY to punish him,

then our own mute CEO & Chairman MUST – finally – stand up for the club?

Good on Brendan… Saying what we’ve all known for years (+ Beaton is a DOB of course!). Lets see if the board have the bottle to back him up publicly!

Apparently they have – At long bloody last…

Not seen it yet but better a million years late than actually none at all

I agree 100% with Brendan and his views on the two major Official’s decisions in the game. They were game changing decisions!
A referee’s job is a hard one and you have to allow them some slack for the decisions they make. Hopefully we can pick ourselves up and put this game behind us!
But Brendan is spot-on in his analysis. Both him and the match officials are all paid for the jobs they do.
So, they are all answerable for their actions in one way or another.
They cannot hide from the decisions that they make!

At last…we tell it like it is…and it isn’t good..The Yang red card is farcical.. There is no intent to hurt anyone…it was a genuine attempt to play the ball…Feckin’ disgraceful decision to refer it…and worse to approve it…This decision cost us the game…BR failed to make a proper adjustment and we ended up toothless…As for the penalty…??…That is just an anti Celtic decision…Total feckin’ joke with only one agenda in mind…We should ramp up the pressure here…’cos that was corrupt decision making…End of.
