Liel Abada is reported to be holding talks with Charlotte FC about a permanent move from Celtic.

The winger has been left out of Celtic’s last five squads with his appearance off the bench away to Hibs on February 7 looking like a farewell.

Abada signed a new Celtic contract at the start of September but was soon injured on international duty then put in the spotlight by the situation in Gaza with a very visible element of the Celtic support demonstrating their backing for Palestine.

Those issues are way outwith the remit of any football manager with Brendan Rodgers resigned to life without Abada.

Tonight on Football Scotland Mark Hendry reported:

Liel Abada is holding talks with Charlotte in MLS over a Celtic transfer exit.

Football Scotland understands the winger, 22, has been in conversations with the US outfit over a switch since the end of last week and the fee could come close to around £10million for the Israeli.

Abada was recently “not in the right frame of mind” to play for the club, as Brendan Rodgers explained, following the ongoing Middle East conflict amid the Hoops’ fanbase’s public backing of Palestine.

Hendry has become a fairly reliable source of Celtic news, in June 2022 he was first to link the club with an interest in Alexandro Bernabei.

The signing of Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna in January looked like providing cover for Abada but so far the German winger has failed to make much of an impression.

If Abada does depart it is another significant loss from last season’s Treble winning side with Jota, Carl Starfelt and Aaron Mooy all leaving last summer.

    Great news.

I hope that our shopping in this part of occupied Palestine is now over.

Refs have jackshit to do with the results this season we have just been utter PUSH ,fuck we used to laugh at sevco fans for that shite.

Why would any club want to pay around £10 million for a player who has publicly stated he is in no condition of mind to play football due to family concerns, and has effectively downed tools at his present club. Will this not still be the case no matter which club he moves to as the slaughter is still very much in progress?

Let me answer your question by asking if you honestly believe that the attitude of the Celtic fans in their support for the palestinians has not had an effect on an iraeli player ?
Put yourself in his shoes/boots and then tell me that you’d have no problem playing for people who support the murder of your countrymen because there’s no way that I could ignore it when it’s so vociferous and in your face. That’s the reality of the situation; can you not see that?

      • Willco says:

I’m positive it’s had an effect on him and would be amazed if didn’t. The issue though according to the player is not the fans with Palestinian flags(I’m not one of them btw). Its worries about his family members so surely that would still be the case regardless of where he signs on?

        • berniebhoy says:

I would agree with you if I thought that the worry for his family was the real reason; because then, you’re right, it wouldn’t matter where he plays. That just reinforces my belief that he can’t play for/in front of fans who support a terror organisation who by their own admission will carry out another Oct 7th at the earliest opportunity.

An American club isn’t going to pay anywhere near £10M for Abada?

And you’d think as we’re nearing the end of the season,

he would hold off for a move down south or in Europe?

He needs to leave: only concern is that we get a decent fee for him.
