Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that Cameron Carter-Vickers isn’t facing another lengthy injury lay off.

The central defender has been dogged by muscle injuries all season with his latest run of appearances just reaching three.

Coming off the bench at Motherwell he helped the side to a victory, scored in the 7-1 win over Dundee then played the entire match in last week’s defeat from Hearts.

At Friday’s media conference there was no suggestion of a problem but when the Celtic team to face Livingston was announced Stephen Welsh was in central defence partnering Liam Scales.

Listening to Rodgers speaking to BBC Sportsound pre-match The Sun reports the Celtic boss saying:

It’s a precaution really. He was due to start and had a light session yesterday and he felt something in his hamstring. We did not want to take the risk for him and we hope it is nothing major.

Welshy can come in and he’s played some big games for us and hopefully he’ll do well.

With Maik Nawrocki also injured Gus Lagerbielke was among the substitutes as Celtic laboured to a 4-2 win over Livingston.

Davie Martindale’s side took advantage of poor defending to twice level the scores, it wasn’t until the 86th minute when Daizen Maeda completed his hat-trick that the match was put beyond the visitors.

With almost the last action of the game substitute Kyogo Furuhashi beat the VAR check to score Celtic’s fourth goal.

Next week Celtic are at home to St Johnstone with a big decision to be taken on Carter-Vickers over whether he plays or takes a two week break before the away match on Livingston’s plastic pitch on March 31 ahead of the pivotal trip to Ibrox a week later.

Too many key Celtic players on the sick bed too often. Something isn’t right! If CCV and Hatate continue like this then Rodgers needs to move them on. This sick bed stuff is killing Celtic’s season. Players today are less robust than players of old, and far too wrapped in cotton wool. I remember Henrik Larsson, a broken leg and he was back in the team in less than 3 months. He hardly ever took to the sick bed.

Starfelt got pelters often last season. But when we lost him, we lost half of a Treble-winning central deffensive partnership. He ran off with the womens team centre.
Well blow me over, I thought we were a professional outfit as well!
Now CCV’s not quite right and suddenly thay TWCDP has vanished like April snow off of the Marchdyke!
Somebody ought to be able to figure it out.
    Right?!
