Scott Brown, James McFadden and Michael Stewart were all shocked by the brutality of the challenge by Dean McMaster on Harry McHugh in last night’s match between Ayr United and Airdrie.

All three have played at the highest level with CVs covering Celtic, Manchester United and Everton as well as over 100 combined caps for Scotland.

They knew how to give it out, how to push the limits and suffered from some heavy challenges as opponents fancied putting one on a ‘name’.

Last night David Munro, a regular in the Premiership couldn’t have been better placed as McMaster slid in with both feet off the ground knowing that he could inflict serious injury on his opponent.

If that was only a yellow card then it is frightening to imagine what level of brutality would earn a red card from Munro.

Brown said:

The tackle on Harry near the end was a disgrace. It could have ended someone’s career. The referee is stood yards away from it and thought it was a yellow, which I don’t understand.

Munro refereed Celtic’s 3-0 win away to Ross County in November which saw a Liam Scales ‘goal’ disallowed for the tamest of contact as well as a number of strong penalty claims ignored by Munro and Andrew Dallas on VAR. A ‘goal’ by Oh Hyeon-gyu was disallowed with barely believable VAR lines produced to justify the decision.

Incompetent Scottish referee … whodda thunk it?

  • Bob (original) says:

A red card, all day long.

We get to witness the ‘incompetence’ of both match & VAR officials on a weekly

    basis in the SPFL,

but does anyone have an awarenesss / knowledge of how competent the

match officials are in the lower leagues in Scotland:

    in the Championship and Leagues 1 & 2 ?

I guess today’s lower league match officials are tomorrow’s SPL match officials?

    The above shocking example aside:

are lower league standards generally OK, better, or worse than the SPL…?

I watch a lot of lower league football and a lot of the refs are young, inexperienced and scared of the players and especially coaches and managers, so they go one of two ways – either everything is a free kick and matches end with 8 bookings per side, or they are an absolute free for all.

Only the stronger refs make it to the prem – it’s one thing trying to be objective (I know, I know, but I mean in principle not in practice, where Crawford Allan’s handpicked elite cabal are involved) when being shouted and bawled at by the Bonnyrigg manager in front of 500 folk, another thing entirely being bawled out by the manager in front of 50 or 60 thousand partisan fans loudly questioning your religious background, your parentage and your sexual orientation….

Obviously confused by the colour of the shirt…

I went to the Ayr v Queens Park game last Saturday for something to do (I hate international football, especially anything that allows the cheats that run the SFA to fly first class to any tournament) and I thought the ref did well.

The stand side linesman couldn’t keep up with play and missed a couple of offsides.

The guy McHugh I think is on loan from Wigan and swanned about like Billy Big Baws.

Amazing the abuse from a few very vocal Ayr fans that Aiden McGeady came on for the second half!

I spent most of the game mesmerised by Broony’s hair!!!

Point being I thought the ref did well in that game, but that tackle on the sun bed tanned sand dancer last night was a shocker.

If you think that Celtic minded manager’s are not cheated then think again. They want manager’s to be Sevco apologists and Celtic ones sacked. The corruption runs through the whole system. I know that because I work for a lower league club and the ex Celtic manager’s are always cheated compared to the ex Sevco manager’s. The whole system is reeking. At Cappilow one day after Sevco had beaten Celtic 2nil at Celtic Park in the 10 season I witnessed a referee, and 3 assistances watching the game on TV and celebrating as i walked out the tunnel. If you’re paying to be conned you’re funding it.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

They used to be quite clever about it Sid and just go for a bevvy in the local bowling club…

Nowadays it’s open season and they don’t give a flying fuck –

In fact now the more brazen they are about it the bigger orgasm that they seem to get…

Scandalous Sevco Scotland in The 20th century !
