Image for Bisgrove reveals major security uplift for Celtic fans at Ibrox

Celtic fans will enjoy beefed up security when they return to Ibrox next season.

Hoops fans haven’t been inside the run down stadium since they celebrated an 88th minute equaliser from Kyogo Furuhashi.

Effectively surrounded by home fans on all sides a variety of missiles rained down on the Celtic supporters forcing Michael Nicholson to finally make a stand.

Without netting and improved security Celtic would be refusing to take 700 tickets for Ibrox, with no away fans inside Celtic Park for the return fixture.

That situation has remained in place throughout this season but, reluctantly, the Ibrox board have acknowledged their problem with changes in place for next season.

Celtic fans will get one third of the seats in the Broomloan Road Stand, the corner that they previously had will be empty to enforce segregation.

Further security measures will be in place in the Broomloan Road Stand with the minutes from a recent Fan Forum published yesterday (page 3):

One of the reasons zero has been the number at the last two Old Firm games is that both clubs need modifications to their stadiums.

We will make adjustments to turnstiles, Parkhead will make modifications to ingress and egress to improve the supporter experience. Time has been taken to get it right for next season.

Feedback suggests our away support experience is sub optimal and we hope to get improvement on that with the 5% allocation we will receive at Parkhead

It is positive in terms of atmosphere and for the spectacle of the fixture, it’s a positive step forward.

However I would like to put on record again that this Board would never go beyond 5%, i.e. the full Broomloan Stand.

The European allocation is the right number. If we had not engaged in this process, there was a risk another number could have been imposed which would be less favourable.

Minimal changes will be required at Celtic Park with a natural gap between the Lisbon Lions Stand and the Main (south) Stand.
