Fright of my life- Idah on his amazing Celtic reception

Seven days ago Adam Idah was preparing for a very memorable weekend.

Signed on loan from Norwich City at the end of January it would only be natural for the young striker to skim through the fixture list in search of the Glasgow Derby.

Week by week, match by match the countdown was underway towards April 7, the two clubs could barely be separated but everything about the immediate build up was pointing towards a home win.

For an extra twist, 10 days before the match was to be played it was confirmed that there would be no Celtic fans inside Ibrox, not even token 700 squeezed into a corner, surrounded on all sides.

Idah would have picked up on the chat from his team-mates in the build up to Ibrox, a shadow Celtic side had won there in September but nothing quite prepares you for a visit into a wholly hostile environment.

In an effort to show the team some support the Green Brigade and Bhoys arranged a Saturday send off for the Celtic squad as they gathered at Celtic Park before the coach journey to their pre-match hotel.

Idah had a memorable half hour at Ibrox, scoring what looked like the winner only to have the glory snatched away from him by a late equaliser but the sight of the Celtic Way on Saturday afternoon will live with the Irishman for a while yet.

It was amazing. Every single person on that bus was amazed. I had the fright of my life when I was driving in! It’s hard to put into words to be at a football club and to have that support and fanbase where they genuinely love you. As players, that makes you want to do so much for the club to win games and win trophies. It’s huge. They’re huge for us, and playing in front of them is amazing, so all the lads love them.

Idah was very diplomatic on what happens in the summer at the end of his loan deal. Celtic have had a variety of problems signing strikers but in Idah it looks like they have someone ready made to hit the ground running- if he hasn’t already.

I was very underwhelmed when I heard we’d brought in someone who was 3rd or 4th choice at Norwich, NOT SO NOW.
He’s done everything that’s been asked of him, he’s still young and learning and I’m sure Brendan can get the best out of him.
He also brings an entirely different approach to Kyogo.
Come on Adam, Come On You Bhoys In Green!
Psst, I’m hearing of a newish Tim site, Celtic365. It’ll no doubt take time to reach a peak but well worth checking out in the coming weeks.

It can’t be easy picking diamonds every time but if BR is picking players he feels will add to the team (a couple of projects is fine but not a whole team of them) good. Hope we can shape recruitment to now kick on from this, without a dunderheid picking new recruits again. I would take Idah; sometimes it’s finding the players who can handle the pressure here. And he’s used to it now. Strong, peripherally aware, good shooting peg too
