With another clear out of loanees and out of contract ‘stars’ coming in the summer the Daily Record is linking Ben Johnston of West Ham with a dream move to Ibrox.

The defender has fallen out of favour with Davie Moyes this season but at the age of 24, as a former England u-21 internationalist and with over 100 EPL appearances to his name Johnston won’t be short of options when his Hammers deal expires.

Fabio Silva is joining John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, Kemar Roofe, Ryan Jack and Leon Balogun on the way out of Ibrox at the end of this month but bears do need to be fed some good news no matter how far fetched.

Excitedly the Record reports:

Rangers have reportedly opened talks with West Ham full back Ben Johnson over a potential move to Ibrox when his contract runs out next summer.

The 24-year-old, who is a product of the Hammers youth academy, has scored two goals in 109 appearances for the Premier League club since making his debut in 2018. Johnson is also a former England U21 international and was a part of the squad that lifted the European Championships last year.

But with the right back now into the final three months of his contract at the Olympic Stadium, The Athletic report that Philippe Clement has opened dialogue with the player to bring him to Govan on a free transfer in June.

With £4m already committed to signing Mohamed Diomande from Nordsjælland in the summer Philippe Clement’s summer budget is already looking stretched.

The good news for the Ibrox boss is that Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, Nico Raskin, Ben Davies, Ridvan Yilmaz and Jose Cifuentes are all signed up on long term deals. James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have two years to run on their contracts.

The Johnston moonbeam is the lead story in the BBC Gossip page.

Aye, from a print journo it’s sad really, really sad.
Just where do you get an honest report of ANYTHING now?
When the truth is imprisoned, or even ‘illegal’, society in general suffers.
We need to stop the 2 party tories (including Labour) in the UK, head towards coalition and make politicians accountable till death for any ‘crooked’ decisions made during their tenure.
      Tony Bliar anyone?
