The evidence over John Beaton’s ‘inconsistencies’ is growing with the statistics about the Bellshill based referee easily available.
After 34 rounds of SPFL fixtures Beaton has refereed 17 matches with six involving Celtic and three with the 2012 Ibrox Tribute Act0 half of his appointments involve two of the 12 Premiership clubs.
When he takes charge of Celtic matches Brendan Rodgers’ side are given a card for every six fouls, over the course of six matches. The classic was at Ibrox last month when four yellow cards were shown after 23 fouls were awarded against the visitors.
With three of them coming in the first half the Celtic players had to hold back after the break knowing, with Beaton’s reputation, the slightest contact could see them sent off, possibly a league changing decision.
In complete contrast, when Beaton is refereeing the Ibrox Tribute Act it requires 17.5 free kicks to merit a booking, almost three times as likely.
Beaton reffed 4 games for Rangers 2023-24:
35 fouls 2 yellows.
(17.5 fouls per card)Against:
55 fouls 12 yellows.
(4.6 fouls per card)Beaton has reffed 6 Celtic games 2023-24:
67 fouls 11 yellows 1 red.
(6 fouls per card)Against:
65 fouls 12 yellows.
(5.4 fouls per card)— Lint (@Zeshankenzo) April 29, 2024
Again the April 7 match at Ibrox highlighted that issue, committing 10 fouls, including one instigated by VAR in the lead up to the ‘goal’ from Cyriel Dessers, no cards were issued to the home side.
At the 2023 Celtic AGM in November one shareholder asked about decisions made by Beaton in the 2-1 win over St Mirren, Michael Nicholson decided to put on his stand up comedian act.
To give everyone an idea of what a ‘norm’ for fouls per card might look like in Scottish football, here is an article in the Scotsman from this time 2 years ago.
Celtic were averaging 9.63 fouls per card and it prompted an article.

I wonder, would Lint write, say, a weekly column on here? Perhaps encourage him/her to ask for space on EVERY Tim site?
His/hers stats and knowledge about football in Scotland would become unescapable if/when we united and shouted out their disgraceful lies. The SMSM are evidentially huns so we need the ever-growing Tim sites to get our TRUTH out.
THE MESSAGE NEEDS TO GO WIDER!
The Celtic Board Need to Keep an Eye on this Creature there is Clearly a Pattern Emerging.
The pattern has already been proved….Alan Morrison . ..not a tabloid will touch it ….why?
“Penalty rangers”!
But dig deeper and you’ll soon see that there is more, much more to it thab that.
In the las match at ipox three Celtic players were Yellow Carded by Beaton.
In sixty minutes, just before leaving the field Reo Hatate was totally wiped out FROM BEHIND by Lawrence. No Yellow Card shown, I don’t think we even got a foul.
Beatons twisted, warped mind must be so far compromised it is almost a wreck!
