Amid the flood of ‘breaking’ transfer stories news of Celtic’s interest in Benjami Nygen deserves most attention.

David Friel of The Sun has come up with the story, his In The Know credentials don’t need to be questioned after he broke the news of Neil Lennon’s departure as Celtic manager in February 2021.

Very few people would have been close to that story but Friel had all the credentials, including John Kennedy being appointed as caretaker more than 10 hours ahead of the Stock Market announcement.

Nygen is a 23-year-old midfield playmaker who has recently broke into the Swedish international squad.

With his contract at Nordjaelland expiring at the end of this year The Sun reports:

CELTIC are eyeing a move for Sweden star Benjamin Nygren.

SunSport understands the Nordsjaelland playmaker is on Brendan Rodgers’ radar as he looks to boost his squad.

But the Hoops face competition from the likes of Anderlecht and Copenhagen for the 23-year-old.

Nygren is out of contract in six months and could be available for a cut-price £2million fee.

He recently broke into the Sweden team after a standout season with Nordsjaelland in Denmark.

Nygren scored 16 goals and claimed four assists – earning a senior international chance.

Celtic got through last season with effectively five midfielders, when Reo Hatate was out injured at the end of the season they looked vulnerable in that area of the park.

When the choice is down to four options are limited with the Scottish Cup Final ending with a trio of Luke McCowan, Callum McGregor and Greg Taylor.

Last season Celtic had no outfield signings involved in their pre-season training in the USA, most supporters will be hoping for some new faces to be signed up and involved in the opening pre-season match away to Queens Park on July 4.

6 months to go on his contract. Available for £2million. Thst means Peter will offer the 500k, then he’ll end up signing for another team?

Lawwell doesn’t pay any additional wages in August never mind June and July.

Give me a shout on August the 31st at 10pm. That’s when Lawwell and Nicholson like to do business. After all of the serious football clubs have done theirs.
