Celtic Trust challenge Chairman Lawwell over his AGM petulance

The Celtic Trust has hit back at the shambolic AGM staged on Friday.

Including a 30 minute adjournment the meeting lasted less than one hour with not one question asked. CEO Michael Nicholson never once opened his mouth.

Shareholders were ‘treated’ to a scripted interview with Nicholson conducted by Gerry McCulloch.

No matter how much they try there isn’t an ounce of charisma, personality or warmth about to the so-called ‘leading sports lawyer’.

Very little seemed right about the AGM.

The Chairman does run the show but certain procedures and protocols are debateable at best.

In his bubble Lawwell doesn’t face any scrutiny, being challenged and questioned almost triggers an allergic reaction

It took Lawwell just four minutes to adjourn the AGM. When it resumed he made it clear that it would finish at 12.30 at the latest.

The adjournment time came out of the Q and A slot, plus we had to listen to Ross Desmond deliver his Dad’s angry message

The Celtic Trust stated:

Following the outrageous assault on shareholder rights on Friday at the 2025 AGM, the Celtic Trust wrote yesterday to the Company Secretary, Joanne McNairn.

We have asked her to clarify why she was not available to provide an answer as to why our Vice Chair was not allowed to move a procedural motion – the intention of that motion being to dispense with the videos to leave more time for questions (Note: the videos are routinely uploaded to the Celtic site and people are able to watch them at their leisure). We further asked to to clarify the status of the 2025 AGM.

Amidst the chaos created by the shambolic chairing of the meeting, many shareholders/proxies were unaware that the Chair had barked out ‘call for a poll’ as he was rising from his seat. Poll cards were collected by Computershare staff and the poll has been left open to 5pm on Tuesday 25/11/25 (ie tonight).

Tonight Celtic have announced the results of the votes taken on the motions.

Virtually no-one at the AGM was aware that votes were being taken.

CEO NICHOLSON

Computershare staff with polling boxes were rarer than a Nicholson media conference.

There appears to be no plan to reschedule the AGM, many shareholders suspect that it was never intended to run through to a Q and A session.

CEO Nicholson is barely seen or heard of from one AGM to the next.

In October he did attend a meeting with the recently formed Celtic Collective.

His performance at that event left a lot to be desired, when asked to explain why Brendan Rodgers referenced club signings the answer from the CEO was to shrug his shoulders. That was recorded in the joint minutes from the meeting.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
