SUPER Jack Butland is looking for another Ibrox mega contract.
Micky Beale brought the former Crystal Palace reserve to Ibrox in the summer of 2023 after looking into the ‘keepers’ eyes to ensure that he was the right type.
In three seasons of mediocrity Butland has picked up one winners medal and is now onto his fifth manager.
The media hype over Super Jack brought Gareth Southgate to Ibrox in April 2024.
BUTLAND- THE ART OF SELF PROMOTION
The main debate was over whether the Ibrox shot flopper would be the first choice ‘keeper or only be a squad man.
Within a minute of Southgate taking his seat Butland was picking the ball out the net.
Following the 3-3 thriller an England call up was never mentioned again.
Butland is international class at self promotion, he adores media attention and being put in front of the cameras.
With his current deal running until June 2027 the subject of a new contract came up at Friday’s media conference.
The Sun reports Super Jack saying:
It’s something that’s been spoken about at times. I’ve obviously been very eager and well open to extending that.
I love the challenge, I love everything about it, I love the way the club’s received me and my family, as well as the fan base.
It’s something that starts to creep into your mind when you get towards the end of a contract but for me, it’s performance driven.
I’m hoping to finish the season really strongly and would love to extend that.
If it’s not something that’s happening, I’m still going to do my best to the very end.
Coming from the EPL as a free agent Butland will be one of the highest earners at the club.
With James Tavernier three months away from being out of contract it seems that the new owners are keen to remove the so-called leadership group.
Among the howlers on his Ibrox show-reel Super Jack has faced nine shoot-out penalties from Celtic and failed to save any of them.
Barry Ferguson is the only Ibrox manager to drop Butland. Beale, Phil Clement, Russell Martin and Danny Rohl have all stood by the former Birmingham and Stoke ace.
Liam Kelly replaced Butland a year ago on the back of a series of howlers, mainly at Ibrox before and after the sacking of Clement.
Before moving to Ibrox Butland made 10 EPL appearances over seasons 20/21, 21/22 and 22/23 at Crystal Palace.
